It doesn't have to be coyote, but I think urine has it's uses, both as a curiosity attraction and as a confidence builder. Red fox urine is likely somewhat better than coyote urine in general.
At a baited set I don't think urine is required at all, at a big bait-dead pile- especially the use of urine would be superfluous, however it would not be detrimental.
At a snare or blind set the use of urine would be positively detrimental, imo.

Stuck to using coyote and bobcat. Fox urine down here attracts way too many deer. Quit using it and my tripped traps dropped by 75%. Generally if it could make it a day or two after the initial spray I was good. Very few did though. Mainly have scent post sets right now, so I use urine.

I use red fox urine at every dirt hole set I make. I have it ingrained in my mind that a fox can walk by a dirt hole set and not smell the bait inside. But if you spray the backing with urine, the fox will smell that and investigate it and therefore smell the bait in the dirt hole.

Again, this is just what I’ve made up in my head and it works for me. I haven’t experimented any other way. It works for me!

I'm not a big urine fan unless Its from a single coyote per bottle. Andy weiser and Wayne Derrick is where I get mine. I had mix urine. I think its waste if money

I've been doing a lot of testing of lures and bait in the last year and can say you could trap a lot of coyotes with just a good bait or lure. I cut way back on the # of sets used urine at last year and didnt see any drop in my catch ratio.

Coyote urine is an unnecessary addiction.

It's easy and fun to use and the subject of endless internet exchanges but take mine away and I would be fine.

There's a leading MT trapper who's name your not allowed to write here who doesn't use a drop.

2-300 a year.

I'm a firm believer that the use of good quality urine at a few sets may make the difference in enticing that older varmint. I use urine at about 10 or 15% of original sets and if I have to relure, like after a heavy rain...I use urine up to about 50 or 70 % of older sets. I use it all. I buy my coyote and red fox urine but get enough grey fox and bobcat from bladders to get me by. I have used it all mixed together too.

Neccessary? ....no more than bait or lure is necessary...

Use it at MOST locations but not all sets, for new sets.

It’s a lure. Do you use the same lure/bait at EVERY set? I dont. Some do.

Remakes all get urine, regardless of species caught.

I use more urine in January than I do November/December.
