Excellent book I just read that my dad had given to me this past Christmas. Easily top 5 favorite books. It's about a guy, his wife and son who homesteaded in the Chilcotin wilderness around Meldrum Creek back in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Lot of trapping and wilderness living in the book and he tells a great story.

Just bought a copy a few weeks ago, it's on the 'to read' stack! Thanks for the review Eric, I look forward to reading it.

Eric -

Looks like a real good read. Thanks for the tip.

I just finished (for the third time) a story called 'The Long Walk'. Not trapping, but a true account of an escape from a Russian Gulag during the early years of WW2. Epic journey. I tried to put it into perspective, and it would be like walking (with virtually nothing) from Fairbanks to Mexico City (then add in the Gobi Desert and the Himalayas). Real fine account...

Jack

Sounds right up my alley, Jack. I will make sure to put that one high on my list. Any book worth reading for the third time is a good one, indeed. Thanks!

I have not read the book, there is a lot of speculation that is not true, or some parts are not true

What is your thoughts

Also I would love to hear some of your stories of russia, maybe I can talk you into a post with some?

Good book for sure, read it a couple times.
My memory is good, just short, but I seem to recall some beaver restocking in there.

The author may have tried to put stockings on a beaver, bit if he did, it wasn't included in his book. Yes he did his own sort of beaver restocking in the area, that had been depleted of them.
