My grand-daughter is being officially adopted on July 31st. She's 5 1/2 years old and her father, and my daughters husband, died about 4 1/2 years ago. My grand-daughter was only 10 months old when her father died. My daughter met, and married a new gentleman, who loves my grand-daughter greatly, as she loves him greatly, and he is going to adopt her.
We meet at the court-house on the 31st, the papers get signed, and then there is a sort of party at the court-house.
She made up a song that goes "I've got two dad's, one in heaven and one on earth".
I am so incredibly happy for him and for her I could, and I just might, when it officially takes place, cry.

Takes a special person to adopt an unrelated child with no reservation. My wife’s dad did the same. It completely changed her life. Good for all of you.

When my daughter married the man who is going to adopt my grand-daughter, her last name changed. Since her mothers named changed, my almost 5 year old (at the time) grand-daughter decided her last name should change also.
So, for the last nine months she has been going by the last name that she will officially take at the end of July.
