Yes, totally..... as Single Sideband is still the best way to talk cross country - even across continents - when conditions are right

*both my vehicles have SSB radios in them, and I have a couple of really nice old base stations at home.
The radio in the picture above I use when sitting outside, hooked up to an ancient Radio Shack "Big Stick" type antenna that I did some repair work to.
But I also take that radio with me if I'm shooting skip via one of my vehicles, and I bring a nice antenna with me as well.

But CB radio gets my vote for when the grid goes down, because nothing beats 11 meters [27mhz] when shooting skip.

I have one in the pick up. Just real short range. Mainly use it when driving on the hwy and I hit traffic to find out what's going on.

Had one in my last truck. Me and some guys I know used them to keep in touch when in the woods. I'd turn it on when I was on the highway if traffic got bad and once in a while I could get some info but most of the time it was just silence. I think cell phones killed the CB.

My folks lived in an Avion trailer which they pulled behind the truck for about 15 years before Dad had his stroke. On the side he installed CB radios wherever they went. His bug screen said CB Man. Anyway, until he passed he didn't want to give 'em up. And here they sit. I've got a mess of these, most in the original boxes, along with "stuff".

I'd like to see these go to a CB Club, especially for young people, if there is such a thing. Otherwise, they're up for grabs. Just pay the shipping.

PM me if you're interested. I'm not looking to make a dime on 'em.

Yes,one in the jeep.Getting back after a looooong absence.I looked at a couple of sites and it seems things have changed in that scene tremendously.I started in '74.I'm also a ham operator and I must say I'm rather surprised at some things, such as openly calling 10 meter mobiles CB when their not and converting them to work on the 11 meter band(that's the real CB band)with the extra wattage.I guess the FCC has more important things to worry about nowdays. But looking back to the early days,we had a ball using them. They were pretty much self policing then, you didn't have a bunch of yahoo's cussing or discussing sex on them like you occasionally do today. The kids could listen in and use them, the wives too, without getting harassed. It was a different time.

Something I noticed the other day. Once upon a time, working on construction sites, everybody had a radio. "What's your 20?" was heard all day. Then came Nextel's and we used the same phrase all the time. I haven't heard that said in probably 15 years. I think "What's your 20?" has left the American Lexicon.

when I go to get sand, gravel or top soil, the yards still use them to talk to each other. plus on the interstates the truckers still "hunt bear" with them!

I've had several requests for individual units and will get back to those folks on Monday. Ill also dig out the other "stuff" and take pics. We're going to Nationals in MO and I'd love to gift what's left to whoever could use it. PM me if interested.
