Ding ding ding winner winner. I had to look up beardstongue to make sure it was another common name for Penstemon, never heard it called that here but it checked out.

I have Spiderwort and Cinquefoil here in the yard. I have tried to start Beardstoungue but as yet, have failed at it. It's possible I have a form of Penstemon now. I will only know it when it blooms. That will be soon.
I have been growing native plants for quite a few years now and have quite a few different species.
It becomes an obsession. Kind of like collecting traps.....

I’ve got them all over the pastures. The NRCS and ducks unlimited just seeded the 80 acres closest to my house with several thousand dollars worth of native seeds. So hopefully with all the rain we’ve had that will take off.

Of all of them I can see that the Cinguelfoil is the most beneficial to the native leaf cutter bees. There are at least 4 species of grass that are beneficial that I see. and lots of horsetail growing as well.

Well...I finally do have a Penstemon here in the lots. It's common name is Smooth Penstemon and i now have quite a few.
I remember ordering the seed from Prairie Nursery a couple years ago. There was about a billion little tiny seeds and since I had failed in the past, I scattered the seed in all the different types of habitat I had available.
This form seems to have grown in a riparian type habitat. It's almost wet in spring and dries out some in summer. The soil is a sandy type loam.
Now, I will have seeds to plant of my own this fall.
There are a few different types of Penstemon. Guess I'll have to try another type next season.

1st one spiderwart. 2nd one is shell leaf penstemon. Pretty common in newly seeded CRP 's. I checked close to 30,000 acres of CRP every year and I once saw an 80 acre field of Switchgrass seeded that had it totally cover with penstemon. It either was in the seed or was waiting for 50 years to germinate in that crop field (guessing it was the contaminated seed). Farmer called me out to see if we should spray it to kill it. It was impressive and slowly it went away in about 5 years to where only a few plants were evident. 3rd one is the foil...... the mike

Second picture shows cedar encroachment and looks to be sericea lespedeza as well. If left uncontrolled the sericea will take over.......

All of the three pictures were taken in Sandhills pasture ground that gets light yearly grazing. The foil is the exotic although not invasive. The cedars are left for cover yet many thousands of their progeny fall to the tree saw. You could spend hours trying to ID the species of grasses and sedges in this particular pasture.

Do others see what looks to me like sericea? I would be concerned if that is in my pasture.
