Iam getting close to putting my hip boots on to watch this show. The narrator.....with Tom....says his 3 year old beaver will fetch 400.00 and up to 20 beaver could be in that colony.....oh really !....8,000.00 bucks. I do understand he makes items from the beaver....but thats an expensive hat.

He has a touristy niche that he sells to. I think he also does a lot of special order items. I saw one where it looked like he was making a hooped beaver dream catcher.

Trappers know its phony BS.It is entertainment for the masses.
Don't over analyse it.Better than a lot of shows on TV.

The other trappers that have appeared on the show have said they have no control over the narration.

I think when they say it's a $300 Beaver, they edit out the part where they say it will {cost him} $300.

X2

Add to that, it really benefits those of us who sell fur related items to the nontrapping public who watch the program. They come to rendezvous or other events expecting higher priced goods. A win-win in my books.

I like the show overall. It does put a decent light on trapping. My favorite person on there would be old Tom. He gets along pretty well considering he obviously has bad knees. I don't care for Rich and his running off mountain lions in most of the episodes. I don't like that character from New Mexico either.

Some of the show is pretty far fetched. Like the guy in AK who walked over 200 miles to claim the land he bought. Then, he has a tiny inflatable raft he goes miles downstream in to get supplies in town in a pretty fast flowing river. As much as he struggled downstream to get there, how does he get back paddling up stream?

I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

Yea, the idea that you’re gonna run off mountain lions seems far fetched. The worst guy is the fella from the Carolinas. Just an old hippie.

I met Tom and Nancy back in the 70's when I lived in Montana. They are about as nice of folks as you would ever want to meet.
Nancy was happy back then that Tom had found a job so they could afford some luxuries, like toothpaste. lol
Tom had ended his rodeo career and was a trapper back then, I know he caught quite a few marten.
They made the trip to the FTA shindig in Wisconsin last year and it was great to visit with them again about old times.
Other than a few wrinkles, they ain't changed a bit.

I know there is a lot of baloney, like the fur prices, but I do enjoy the show, considering what else is available to watch on TV. Tom is my favorite. That bird in Carolina I call useless Eustis.
Also that guy and his kid in N.Mexico. The guy with that old vehicle chasing lions is unrealistic. I understand the guy that flies way up in Alaska is the real deal, but he's nuts.If that plane ever quits, he's screwed.
I also like swamp people and deadliest catch and wicked tuna, but how many of those critters can you stand watching?

How about finding a still in the middle of the woods where there is no source of water. Must be a new way to make shine Eustes (sp) blew it up because he didn't want somebody making illegal liquor on his new property. Not to worry can't make white liquor without a water source. Fake News

I think I've read this same thread every year when the show starts up again.
