Iran is a much different nation then either Iraq or Afghanistan in resources and location.
I trust we don't want to get into a upscale military confrontation with a nation that has those resources. I am sure we could win this but the cost is going to be a lot more than 5k lost over 16 years.
We also have to realize that much of the oil for many of our allies comes through the strait and there will be concerns and issues that spread far beyond the fighting. Typically not a great idea to engage in war with nations with millions of readily available fighting age men and women with low educations, high UE and not much to lose.

Yep..Was just reading that it was Iran that went to the crippled tanker and rescued the crew members..Then I read that Iran found a unexploded mine attached to a tanker and was disarming the mine attached to the tanker..It certainly contradicts the other side of the equation..

It's completely illogical for the US to do this or have someone else do it.

I heard that they have video of Iranians attaching mines to the tanker while it was still in an Iranian port. There is video for sure of them removing one on the stricken ship.

Logical for mossad to do this just like it was logical for the rebels in syria to use chemical wepons so we would retaliate against Assad.

Makes perfect sense to me. Like the firefighters who start fires and then respond and put them out.

Yep..And then come to find out that the tankers do not have US of A owners..Just like like the "Gulf of Tonkin"..The US of A is placing themselves to release all their power on an assumption..

If it was done by anyone other than Iran........why is Iran holding the crew of the ship prisoner ?

The article I linked to says the crew is aboard the USS Bainbridge.

Yep..I read an article...Pompeo is saying this and saying that about what he knows based on this and based on that..I don't think he knows anymore than a T-Man trapper posting...LOL..Then we have a person from Japan that apparently has ties with one of the tankers and is saying that the US of A..Is wrong about some part of the assumption of the what caused the damage..At this point maybe it would be better if everyone would chill out for awhile..After all there has been no loss of life

The crew of the other tanker ( Front Altair) was rescued by the Hyundai Dubai...another merchant ship. It was then surrounded by Iranian gunboats and the crew members were transferred to the Iranian boats. They are now being held onshore by the Iranians

They were rescued by the Iranians, I see nothing about them being forcibly held except by FoxNews which is one of the main "news sources" that helped fleece the public into a fruitless war in Iraq and encouraged further action in Syria. The shipping company Frontline LTD says the crew is alive and unharmed. If they are being detained maybe Iran is interrogating them trying to figure out what the heck happened.
