Thoughts on the rights of those who are convicted of preying on the innocent?

Too many schister lawyers in this country! Look at congress, what a bunch of crooks! They will do anything to get their "client" off, no matter what they did to the victim.

I've often heard of castration as a suggested punishment for sex offenders. The problem with that is that the sex offender's problem is in the top "head", not the lower "head". Sex offenders can, and do, still offend without their junk. Still, removing the offending "head" will cure the problem There is no rehabilitating sex offenders.

(I'm not a fan of the death penalty, because I don't like the idea of the government killing it's own citizens, but what happens tto a sex offender won't keep me up at night either.)

The only problem I have with the registry is, I have heard of people being put on it because they got caught urinating in public. Not flashing their junk, just standing behind a tree, peeing, and getting caught. Not sure how true that is, but if it is true, I don't agree with that.

Lee, it’s my understanding that lawyers must represent their clients to the fullest extent possible. Kinda like doctors must try to save their patients, even if they’re a piece of crap who are in the OR by their own actions and/or foolishness.

Cases get tossed because of ineffective council and ,occasionally, attorneys can be disbarred for it.

A good friend of mine, Big Pete, was urinating behind a dumpster, next to a wall, while tailgating at a Bengal's game, when a cop walked up, grabbed Pete, spun Pete around and got urinated on by Pete. The cop was figuratively and literally PO'd. Pete was charged with Assaulting a Police Officer and Exposing Himself in Public and if convicted of the latter would of had to register as a sex offender. Pete hired a good lawyer and the judge found Pete not guilty, of Exposing Himself in Public, because he was hidden from view, between a wall and dumpster, until turned by the police officer. He was also found not guilty of Assaulting a Police Officer, because peeing on the cop was an accident caused by the cop. Without a lawyer, Pete would now likely have to register as a sex offender.

I am okay with permanently removing the threat of real sex offenders, like child molesters and serial rapists.

I agree with the ruling. Everyone is entitled to due process - which includes the right to offer a defense. Before being put on the register, they get a hearing, trial, something to determine if they belong on the register. If they belong there, put them on the list. But they have the right to "due process" first.

That said, if someone is so dangerous that we need to put them on a register, why are we letting them out in the first place?

If we are really rehabilitating criminals of any sort then there is no need for it or any other rules that last past their time served. Otherwise prison is where they still belong, and if they are not able to be rehabilitated then there is only 1 cure.

Agreed. This is why I believe felons should be able to vote and own guns after their time is up. If you can be trusted to be a decent person in society, then you should have all the rights as any other citizen. If you can't be trusted, then rot in prison.

Half of them should not be in prison! As in, they should have been executed the moment after being convicted.

Voting is reserved for citizens who respect other citizens rights. You should never be allowed to vote again once you break that trust.

We let to many people live!

Just because you serve your time and are released doesn't mean you have been rehabilitated.

I would agree that rehabilitation is not happening, but the goal we should be going for is total rehabilitation. Justice demands it and a just society requires it.


There are also plenty of good people that end up in prison for doing something that situation required even if it wasn’t legal and they lose their rights just like the worst of them.

We can talk all day about how they should be dealt with and I bet we all agree. Not how our system works.
Won’t work that way in our lifetime. Get over it.

The sex offender registry ... this is an area Flying Finn would’ve had a field day with. I’ll fill in for him in his stead.
Know what it’s done ? Concentrated them.

Medicine Park is a small touristy area near me . Lots of little shops and restaurants on the banks of a small river. Great little swimming area , great trout fishing area.

And loaded with sex offenders who live there year round.

Know why ?

No schools , churches, or city parks located there. So they can safely and legally live there . Even though it’s loaded with kids all summer.
