The raccoons have figured out NOT to step on the petal in my live trap. They reach over and enjoy take out. Any ideas?

Put your bait under the trap so they have to work to get it

For problem coon like that I cut a piece of 1/8 inch luan or paneling to fit inside the trap and about half the length of the trap. Put one end on the pan . As the coon walks in and up the panel , the pressure will set the trap off. I also have had some success with using a small bait holder basket suspended in the back of the trap. If he has to work hard enough to get to the bait , he will screw up and step on the pan . Sometimes they will leave the bait basket but it works most of the time for me

Great idea. I would put the bait in an tuna can and bury it under the trap nearly under the trigger pan so they have a very hard time avoiding it. The can will help keep varmints/bugs off the bait.
Don't forget to stake the cage so it can't be rolled over.

A piece of pvc baited/lured on both ends hung in the back of the cage with a piece of wire will take coon all night long. I like to thread the wire through a slot with a bend where they need to use a little force to pull it down, I don't tie it off. It serves as an occupier and eye appeal along with being rugged.

I was taught to suspend the bait in a cup made from the bottom of a water bottle or top off a spray can of paint.

Then their MOTHER lode is up and away so their attention is UP.

I just run a wire from 1 side to the other about a 1/3 of the way down the trap right over the pan so they have to duck and step on the pan.
