What are you trying to get off your traps in the 1st. place and what animals are you trying to trap with your traps.

Sealer or paint? the sealer stuff we used on floors was thin right out of the barrel, put it on with pump sprayers, not much of a coating when dry either.
Only things I recall being used with gasoline are the SpeedDip and Rust-Oleum. i think if I wanted to dip, I'd use The Beav's latex paint method. Not so explosive.

If you want a dip that’s gotten a fair amount of press, go to Andy’s Speed dip. Follow the directions and you’ll be fine.

Or get Steck’s or Newt’s Formula One, or any of the non-gasoline dips and follow the directions.

Personally, I cleaned my new traps and the old ones of any coatings and spray painted them a flat dark color. After drying, I dipped them in Full Metal Jacket.

All these methods work. Just get the products and FOLLOW the DIRECTIONS.

Or, don’t follow the directions. Then you can come back here and talk about how the product didn’t work and how you’ll never use it again.

Seriously, go buy something that dyes metal. Do the prep work. Dip or spray or whatever on a hot day, in the middle of the summer, and let dry according to the directions. In the end you’ll have traps that are protected from rust and will serve you well until some animal rubs it off and it’s time to treat them again. Then, come back and tell us how well it worked for you.

F1 wont work if you've dipped your traps in paint before. That said its tough to screw up a 50/50 acrylic paint lacquer thinner mix to dip traps in dip let sit a week in the sun and breeze then dip in fmj easy no wax to worry about contaminating or scorching. I dip mine all the way to the anchor it helps keep cable and wolf fang from rusting as well

I have painted and used full metal jacket with good results.Right now I am soaking my traps in white vinagar too removve the full metal jacket build up.Seems a 3 day soak worked fine. This yr I am dipping in formula 1 then I may dip in full metal jacket again.
