We have killdeer here too. They sure make a racket and distract you from their nest with their antics!

Yep, love those birds. The like to nest in our substations and its darn hard to pick out their eggs laying in gravel.

Commercial buildings and industrial parks have flat roofs with creek gravel to hold the rubber membrane down, and dips/swales will hold water so it's just like a gravel bar, and they will nest on the roofs.

They used to lay eggs in my driveway and down by my pond. They haven't for a couple of years.

Most annoying bird. Especially when trying to jump shoot doves over plowed fields.

Played a golf course about 30 years ago that had a killdeer nest on the first fairway. Sign on tee box said free relief. Sure enough my ball rolled to within a few feet of the nest. The killdeer would not allow me to retrieve my ball. I think they even moved it to their nest.

I can appreciate them because they come across to me as genuine, It's the Bluejays I can't stand lol.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Neat bird, but they drive me nuts. No other bird can mess up a peaceful evening of fishing like a Killdear.

Anyone else still mad at the very first killdeer which convinced you that it was actually injured to the point that you sought out to rescue the poor thing, only to find out that you had been duped?

Used to see them all the time here. Haven't seen one in a few years.

I'm not sure about survival instinct, they always built their nests in the driveway.

Here is a picture of a picture of a nest of killdeer eggs I found laying in rocks that where surrounding a large propane tank . I wish I could create a camo that is as effective as they are I would be rich [Linked Image]
