The wife bought this for me a couple years ago and it has been sitting on the shelf. With all the rainy days, I finally opened the kit and built this 50 cal pistol. Good Grief. I've never seen a gun kit so poorly made. It's a "Traditions" Kentucky pistol and the fit was atrocious. Nothing came close to fitting correctly and the stock was one step above a block of wood. I don't know what kind of wood it is. I can tell you one thing, it's not a hard wood. At least it was easy to sand because I had to do a ton of that. Figuring it was either a soft wood or some kind of Spanish maple, I even pre treated it for staining and it still came out blotchy. I had to get the mill and lathe involved on some of the brass pieces to get them to fit correctly. All of that being said, for the price, I would build another. They will never be show pieces but it's cheap fun. They shoot well and go bang every time. Here's a couple pics.

That looks super cool! I've thought before about building one of those kits with the kids, but had no idea what went into it.

How's it shoot? How far out can you hit a pie pan with that?

One of these days I'd love to do a kit. Good think you had the additional tooling.

I just shot it a couple times in the back yard. I was shooting at a 2 liter at about 60 feet or so. I didn't hit it. I was shooting high. I left it there to mock me. I may kill it tomorrow. smirk
