I'm looking at getting rid of my Dodge diesel and getting a Tundra with the 5.7. I would love to here some opinions from people that owned them. The one I'm looking at is a 2009.

I have a 2011 Tundra with a 5.7. They aren’t too good for gas mileage, but other than that, no complaints so far.

We bought one used and has been nothing but a money pit. 2011 tundra put in new transmission, transmission switch and various solenoids. It really sucks down the gas. It was used for plowing before we bought it.

I have an 08 dbl. cab 4WD with the 5.7. I use it as a work truck to haul scafflding and planks and also tow a 10,000 pound trailer with it. It gets used hard. I've had it ten years and the only complaint I have is the back bumber is rusting out. Other than that, best truck I've owned.

Eh...wot?

Have an 08 with 180k. It’s my third one, I love them. When this one dies I’m getting another.

We’re in an extremely loyal Toyota family, like 25 over the years in our immediate family. I’m on Tundra #2, first was a 2005 n finally traded for another Tundra. The 05 had 305,000 miles and I would have headed to Alaska with it the day I traded. Insane trade value, to the point I’m glad I didn’t sell it for cash, folks didn’t have the $$ n many were leery of the miles. Both Tundra, were tough on gas, however my current Tundra is a 2012 n gets 3-4 mpg better than my 05, plus sooo much more room. I feel/felt both had/have plenty of power and needless to say very dependable.
Note , I understand cash isn’t the same as trade in value, but $5000 cash isn’t $11,500 trade.

My dad had a 2013. he is hard on stuff. like a high school kid hard on vehicles. he is 86. was having a hard time getting in it cause its up off the ground to far. I don't think he ever had it in the shop for anything but routine maintenance. anyway I just got home from a trip out there. took him to a dealer he had traded it too so he could get his new lower to the ground pickup. except for the height thing Im sure he would have kept it. he has moved to town and doesn't need 4wd anymore.

Love mine. It has the 4.8 engine.

Fuel mileage isnt the best. Usually around 17 plus just around the rural roads.

My wife has a 2012 with that bigger motor. It is super snappy on the gas - Too fast in my opinion. It gets about 10 mpg. I'm 6'3 and 280. It is super uncomfortable to drive. I had an 02 with the old body style and it fit like a glove- way more comfortable in my opinion but a lot of people like this new style. Dependable - we use it to haul horses. Does a good job.

Just passin through

I thought seriously about trading for a new one this winter. Did a ton of research on full size trucks, and in the end I went with a 2018 Silverado. I just couldn't get past the poor gas mileage everyone seems to get with the Tundra.
