I ran over for a few hours Saturday and picked up some great tips on wolf trapping that I think will greatly improve my odds starting out this year. I also really enjoyed the session with Idaho Fish and Game's furbearer biologist.

Kinda wish I would’ve had the time or planned my trip better to attend this.

I attended all three days and I can't say enough good things about all three of the Idaho organizations and their leadership. These guys are working their tails off for trappers and sportsmen everywhere. I commend all of you for your work in uniting and fighting for our rights.

Gotta ask about that cookie cutter. Looks like lightweight construction.... Is it made out of sheet metal?, if so how does it hold up?....No disrespect to the maker, just wondering.

I would love to plan to come to a northern Idaho rondy! I'd like to visit Coeur D alene and hit that resorts Sunday brunch again!!! Stayed out there a few years back for a few weeks for a work trip. Had a blast!

Just livin' the dream...and paying full price for it!

Ky_coyote_hunter that's the same set cookie cutter JR uses on his line in Alaska as do many others who trap wolves.
Yes they are made from sheet metal they are designed to cut out a trap bed in a snowmobile track .

Gotcha, and I'm sure it's very effective for it's purpose...It's all clay, roots, and rocks here so
the cookie cutters are much thicker construction by necessity.

Thanks for taking the time to explain that to me, it makes perfect sense now.

When there's snow sorry about leaving that part out. If I remember correctly when JR is pre setting up a area he uses a Pulaski to dig trap beds and sets trap stakes when the use of a drag wouldn't be feasible.
They have permafrost up there to contend with in some places it doesn't melt enough to use what many of us use down here for trap line tools.
To get a much better idea read JR'S aka AKhowler's posts on the Wilderness trapping and living if you haven't yet it's rather educational as he is a accomplished wolf trapper and instructor for the ATA .
He's not on line as often during the summer months he's back working construction, he also owns and makes the Alaska #9 traps .
