Long story short: gas pump in the Tundra isn't working due to rodent chewed wiring. Fortunately State Farm is covering repair 100% under comprehensive.

Solutions to deterring mice or squirrels or whatever it is?

We're sitting here at the Unique Cafe having coffee this morning and brainstorming ideas. Best one so far is to fill socks with mothballs and hang under the truck and under the hood.

Your solution, please?

Jaguar rat poison works pretty good for me. Until your favorite family pet gets ahold of it.

Stop using soy based insulation on wiring will help. Don't know if that's what Toyota uses but...

Killing the rodents is the only real way to stop them.

x2

Moth balls like hedge balls are a wives tail. I once found a can of moth balls with a mouse nest in it!

So you have a solution? Or there is none?

Neighbor in Washington spread mothballs all around their place. They still had mice, both of their dogs died of kidney failure and they both complained of constant headaches.

Lots of mouse traps, or cats. I fixed a lot of wiring damaged from mice. Seems the worst were cars parked outside, especially over grass. A tight garage is the best protection, with an aggressive trapping program.

Snakes don't work. I have seen cars where the engine compartment was loaded with snakes and the trunk was a mouse breeding ground.

Lots of mouse/rat traps set around your truck every night. Poison too if its in a building void of pets. Avoid parking in rodent prone areas, (tall grass, old dirt floor buildings, cluttered and trashy areas, etc...).

... lot of bad reviews there and I bet it stinks like mothballs or ammonia.

k snow >>>> maybe not WI snakes, but I can tell you bull and rattlers will take care of a lot of mice, where I live. Weasels will keep them down and cats. I latterly have very small numbers of mice at the ranch and if not having snakes, weasels, fox and coyotes around I would be OVER run with mice. I would never use poison again for mouse control.

I have a few bucket traps around in buildings and in ten years of using them I have had a handful of mice that have been caught in the buck traps. I have never seen a mouse or sign of them because of the snakes and weasels that live and around my place. They get the nests and destroy them very effectively.

Yeah, I noted that ADC. Got to get proactive on this. We often park the truck overnight in grassy areas. thanks

I had trouble with mice in a garage I kept an old car in. Tried poison but very little changed. One weekend I found a big black rat snake in the trusses. I never had mouse problems again there. I saw the snake a every once in a while.
I sold the place about ten years ago and the guy tore the trusses out to raise the roof. He said they killed a black snake that was over five feet long while working on it. He says he hates snake worse than mice.-- Mice have chewed the wiring on his tractor at least twice since then.

Had a big mouse problem for years. Tried everything to no avail. About 5 years ago I got some cats and within 3 months I had no more problems. Four or five cats will clean them up for sure. Just feed them enough to keep them around and still be hungry.

I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

Many ADC jobs I did the homeowner had spread moth balls around, especially groundhogs. My standard line was " If they worked for groundhogs they would call them groundhog balls, they are called moth balls ,cause they only work on moths." Soy based insulation, as mentioned before, is your problem. Change the wiring or someday you will park for the day (an hour) out in the back forty and wind up walking home!

We have a large population of mice. I've had the same issue. Started with mounting poison bait stations under the hood and leaving mouse traps on the intake and behind the tires at night. The traps had to be removed every morning before driving off. It was a constant battle.

I'm far from a cat person but I finally broke. Now we keep two outdoor cats, a pair of siblings around the place. I see them working under the vehicles often. Last week they had one trapped under the rear tractor tire while I drank my morning coffee... Guess I'm a cat person now. If and when the coyotes get them, they'll be replaced by another pair or maybe even a trio.

I sold my backup truck because I couldn't keep the squirrels out of it. They chewed up tons of wiring and pulled out vaccuum hoses as well. Shot 44 out of my yard that year and didn't even slow them down. Hope you have better luck than I did.
