We have our house for sale and had a second showing for a couple last Thursday. This morning I noticed a smell in the basement. I found my upright fur freezer door was open and everything thing was thawed and smelled. All green fur was ruined. I called the realtor and asked if they had opened my freezer. She wasn’t at the showing and asked the other realtor. They said they didn’t. She told me something like this had happened before. She knows my three freezers don’t go with the house and doesn’t know why anybody would open it but knows it happens. I understand that without her saying they opened it there’s nothing I can do about it. I hadn’t been in it since April. It’s very unusual for the door to open on its own since it was anywhere near full. I guess it doesn’t matter now I got it all cleaned up. Just makes me sick throwing out some fur I was going to tan myself the second week of July during vacation.

The nice thing about fur is you can always get more, it's easy to get.

That sucks no matter how the door was opened.

That sucks. At least you caught it before it got real bad. Imagine if the freezer went bad and you didnt catch it for a month or more.

Realtor sent me another text this morning saying she talked with the realtor in person that showed my house and felt she wasn’t telling the truth because of other statements she made. My realtor said she would deduct the amount of my loss from her commissions when we sell the house. She wouldn’t comment on what the other realtor said but she also said she wouldn’t let that realtor show my house alone again. I was impressed with her going further and asking the other realtor again in person and coming up with her solution. Without solid proof she can’t make a formal complaint to the board of realtors but is making their company aware of it.

These days with security cameras you can monitor with your phone, that's not an issue.

This! Temperature alarms are cheap. Saved a freezer full of elk for me. The door self opened from ice build up.
I wouldn't have a freezer in an out of the way location, basement or garage without an alarm on it.

I had a freezer full of wyoming bobcats and pine martin go out after a lightning storm. I had the local furbuyer give an appraisal and my insurance paid it

Not to be a wise guy but being a HVACR tech for 27 years I’m aware of locks and temperature alarms. Usually I go past them everyday. But between working and spending time with my mom that lives a hour away and is in terminal condition. My routine is off. I digital exterior thermometers. I wouldn’t trust those cheap temperature alarms they fail a lot. If I would do anything different I would wire a red light some place in plain sight with a thermostat in the freezer this is much more reliable. But thanks for all your ideas
