I married my wife on this day. We got married in the oldest Catholic church in San Francisco and then had everybody drive 2 hours to a great riverside spot that a friend owned. Dogs and kids were invited and it was pretty much a 150 person potluck. We had just opened our first fly shop and didn't have much money but we had barbecued chicken, cold beer and wine in a horse trough and plenty more for everybody. After lunch there were lots swimming in the river with the labradors, some taking naps in the shade and others just happy meeting new people. It was a special piece of land as I had originally poached it for catfish and smallmouth but later met the owner and we became friends. He insisted that our party was at his place.

It's been a great ride, like a 33 year camping trip, but we've been lucky and never had kids and that gave us the freedom to take risks.

A great weekend to all. The hay is cut, the gardens are doing well, and life is good.

All from the eastern front.

Pete

Pete, congratulations, sounds like a great wedding. Two questions, if you care to answer.

How old is the church you got married in?

How did you ever end up in France? I enjoy the pictures you post, I'm thinking that rural folks in France are probably just like rural folks in the United States.

Mr. Schmitt..

Thanks for the question. The church was built in 1854. Below the clock there was a plaque that said, " Son, observe the time and fly from evil". We had our two dogs in the truck parked in front of the church and let them out onto the steps for pictures after the wedding.

As for ending up here, my wife was born and raised here but came to the states in 1968. We met in 1984 and got married in 1986. We met when she walked into a hunting and fishing store where I managed the fly fishing department looking for a used shotgun for ducks. Lucky for me the gun manager was a loser and at lunch that day.
