I was really turned off when candidates at the Democratic debate started speaking in Spanish. Everywhere I go I read stuff half in English, half in Spanish. The U.S. is an English speaking country, PERIOD ! All that immigrated here that could not speak the language had to learn. Thank the political clowns looking for votes ! Speak American.

It's been said a million times, but for some reason Dems think it's a good idea to take everything away from anyone who has anything, so that everyone ends up with nothing......just like every third world nation has done. All in the name of not having to work for an honest living. I don't get it. Work is good for the soul, and makes you sleep good at night!

America doesn't have an official language... but English -is- most frequently spoken.. Spanish 2nd.. with French in 3rd & Chinese in 4th. We've always been pretty multi-cultural as Jim said.. though "white culture" (or I guess whatever it may be called) has always been most prevalent (in media, anyway... I'm sure by now we know it depends on your region/area of town).

Besides, learning another language is good for your brain! It's like math... but with words, haha

Not that I'm trying to take anything from anyone. I was always taught growing up that America is the melting pot of the world.. all kinds of folks live here & somehow we can (barely) get along. Maybe I just like learning new things, who knows. Better than being afraid of anything new imo

Its no big deal.Where the majority of the population speaks a certain language,that becomes the official language.
As Spanish becomes the language of the majority in say California,then as a democracy people will eventually have Spanish as their official language if that is what they speak.The First Nations always had their own languages,and there were many.
When the first Europeans came to North America they didn't start speaking the indigenous language,they kept their own English language and it became the official language because the majority of people(voters)spoke English.
So it will be no different in the future when Spanish will become the first spoken language in parts of the USA,just like French is the official language of Quebec.

Unfortunately you're right Boco, Spanish will become the first spoken language. Mainly in Democrat states. Not democratic, but Democrat.

I think what's wrong with a lot of people today, and you can see it here, is the argument that "we have always been a melting pot". While this is true, to compare how it used to be and how it has been in the last 15 plus years is apples and coffee tables. It used to be that immigrants came here LEGALLY and were processed. They had to assimilate to OUR culture, OUR way of life and English was to be spoken out in public. Yes, they spoke their native tongue in private and in their neighborhoods but that was it, they assimilated to become a citizen of our great nation. Now, they come here illegally and want to bring their native - ways with them, that's BS. We need to nip it and go with merit based only and make sure they understand that they will be one of us, or get a ticket back to where they came.
