Besides the use so much of Spanish, what bothers me is that if they are so anxious to get here they should be willing to assimilate into our culture, not trying to push theirs down our throats.

My first wife and the mother of my four children was a U.S. Marine and a Native American from Isleta, NM. She and her family spoke both English and their Indian language. I would guess their ancestors were here long before yours were. So get down off your high horse Cowboy.

So I guess a cop needs to know how to say "take your hand out of your pocket" in 14 languages. So I guess kids in the 4th grade that think they might want to be a cop should learn as many languages they can before they get too old.
I learned to count to diez in Spanish in the 4th grade. Never used for anything, wow great to have knowledge I don't use. I don't hate all foreign languages or the people, I like to hear Méav Ní Mhaolchatha sing Dulaman in what ever language its in. She knows 6 languages and I have know idea which is which, just that Dulaman is about sea weed. I think I read she might even be a lawyer.
Anyway other than music that puts me to sleep, foreign words are of no value to me and I can't see having professionals like cops, firemen, doctors and such having to learn not just one other language but maybe many.
Wouldn't it just be luck for a blind person to get a guide dog that didn't know his language. Maybe the dog could have a translator dog. Wow life sure seems complicated.

Simple answer,..no. Cultures seem to piggy-back with settlement. What was our culture has fragmented,...probably why you see so much push back. If you sleep well at night,...why wouldn't you wish that to remain.

I saw a preacher that got replaced in a church all over the "Holy Spirit" and "Holy Ghost". The preacher said Holy Ghost was wrong that ghost was something entirely different. That Luther and Shakespeare was German and they had no suitable word for spirit. So there ya go with the language bearer. Some people like subtraction and division while others like adding and multiplying.

I think what's wrong with a lot of people today, and you can see it here, is the argument that "we have always been a melting pot". While this is true, to compare how it used to be and how it has been in the last 15 plus years is apples and coffee tables. It used to be that immigrants came here LEGALLY and were processed. They had to assimilate to OUR culture, OUR way of life and English was to be spoken out in public. Yes, they spoke their native tongue in private and in their neighborhoods but that was it, they assimilated to become a citizen of our great nation. Now, they come here illegally and want to bring their native ****hole ways with them, that's BS. We need to nip it and go with merit based only and make sure they understand that they will be one of us, or get a ticket back to where they came.

A little diversity....20+ million illegals across the southern border, lord only knows how many muslims Obama brought in illegally, tearing down all monuments that stand for American history, defying the constitution, not enforcing laws, etc. Ya, a little diversity. More koolaid, please.
