I have been using welded 1/4 square mesh wire as a vent cover material , I just ordered another 100 ft x48 inch roll,at $650.00 shipped. What are others using? I need to quote a house that has 5 vents,32 foot ladder for highest. Maybe I am not charging as needed.A little sealing and little clean up. Any advice is welcome, Thanks in advance to all.
Robert

I use 1/2 x 1/2 black vinyl coated 16 gage wire. Has always worked for me. Not as expensive.

Been using 1/2" for a decade and paint it to match customers house siding.

use 1/4" for the "washers" to run pan head screws thru

We use quarter inch hardware cloth to exclude bats.

Charge for your time. Hardware cloth is pretty low cost in comparison. What is your time worth? It's maternity season for us now so we can't set the 1 way. That means 3 visits on a bat job. 1 to seal secondaries, 1 to place the cone, 1 to remove and finish it. You need to seal all the holes your pinky can fit into so you dont get a call back. If you miss one and a bat finds it, figure 3 more future visits to do the job over.

Charge accordingly. It's roof work and has the hazards of it. Safety equipment takes time to use. Insurance is expensive. How much do you need to charge?

i order mine from ridge-guard.com . the ridge guard products are the best thing for vent covers from square vents, round vents, and ridge vents bar none. for louvered vents if i am doing bat work i am using 1/4" painted black or grey.

That seems like a lot of money for quarter inch. Where did you order?

I know that the shipping hits you hard. If you buy several rolls you can save $$ if you can use it.

We use and have been using for many years 1/2"x1/2" GAW 16ga, wire for vent work and chimney cap work. We also use the same wire in vinyl coated wire and we use 1" x 1" x 16ga. in vinyl coated for barrier work.
