What’s the biggest bluegill you’ve seen? Dad caught this one out of the ice about 18 years ago on the refuge lakes in the Sandhills of Nebraska. I believe it was a pound three quarters.

I've never caught a biggie but have seen some way bigger than that.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

I caught a monster bluegill in a private lake that I released as I was 14 years old and did not want to get in trouble if caught! Hooked the 'gill on an 8" rubber worm while I was trying for large mouth bass. Pushing a foot long which seems far fetched but I bet it was very close! No cell phones for a quick photo back then as we still had a corded phone with a dial and it didn't reach!! grin

Thought I hung into bass or cat until it rolled. Big as a dinner plate.

What sucks about it is people don't actually weigh all the fish and if they do its often on an inaccurate scale. We're still looking for a 60# flathead while I've seen pictures of fish guys claim to be 70+lbs and I know, because I have seen a lot of big flatheads actually weighed on accurate scales, that those 70's aren't even 50, some not even 40lbs.

I've never weighed a bluegill but I have seen some big ones. Mocular that is a dandy.

Do y'all call big bluegills "shellcrackers"? That fish is not what we call a "shellcracker" around here. Shellcrackers are also called red-eared sunfish.

Here is a big one my two fishing buddies caught back in the spring. I guarantee to my boy it was a shark. Lol

My brother caught one back in he 70s that is still the biggest I have ever seen even after dressing it for eating it was still bigger then the plate it was served on

Wish we had taken pictures of it because most just pass it off as fisherman tall talk but it’s straight fact

Caught on Orno lake in Elk River Mn 1977 they drained the lake a few years ago and have not been back since

Art, if'n you caught that one out of that river there would be skid marks from your boots on that muddy shore. Those are some nice fish guys, I think a bluegill, pound for pound puts up as good of fight as any fish.
