Alright, so I assume you dry the dirt completely before putting it into the cement mixer? Or can you add "wet" dirt first, heat it until its dry, then add wax? Also, is too much heat with the torch a huge worry? I know a guy can burn the dirt with other methods, but being this is constantly mixing, can you burn it with this method?

Better if with dry dirt to start off with. Keep just hot enough to melt the wax. I use a digital heat gun. I’m thinking around 130 degrees

John Graham had a nice write up about his thoughts on the mixer method. From what I remember he stated no matter how careful you are with the temperature he’s noted refusals using that method on control work. Was enough information for me. I stuck with the solar method. Can do 100’s of pounds of sand a day pretty easy over 90 degree days. I did 300 lbs in two sittings with an 8x10 tarp.

I think you're right about the refusals. But I think you can get refusal with solar wax dirt to .

Just saw a demo at the Idaho rondy on making waxed sand. Heat the wax sand mix to 138 degrees, use a infrared thermometer to monitor temp. When you hit 138 degrees stop the heat, keep running the mixer until it reaches 90 degrees . That's when you can dump in into a bucket to store.

You would need to remove the blades or you would think it would beat it to dust and that dust holds surface tension when wet I like a courser dirt!

Trying coal shale this year and will add aluminum oxide to some and try that out too.

I've done it that way for years, and the biggest thing is to not overheat, the second biggest thing is to use dirt that has little organic matter in it. Pure dirt or sand will not smoke, but if you get it too hot, it will make the wax smoke, so the post above about monitoring the heat is the most important thing you can do. Oh....a coyote wouldn't work a set....that's a coyote! You can blame it on anything you want, and yes it could be. the wax dirt, if you screw it up!

Made a couple hundred pounds last year for the 1st time (Used a cement mixer), had good success making and using it. I will say this, we tried a batch of freshly dug dirt, and that was a mistake. It took forever. Definitely need to start with dry dirt or sand imho

As long as your mixer is clean and your tarp is clean and doesn't have any odor, it would be as effective as the solar method as long as you don't burn it.
