Well, after a skunk killed 14 of my chicks the other night, the wife and I were in the market for some chicks. I didn't want to waste 3 weeks with some more eggs in the incubator, so it was off to craigslist. The wife found these yesterday: My wife found us a deal with a supposed mix of Golden spitzhauben, Silver spitzhauben, Egyptian fayoumis, white rocks, production reds, buff orphingtons, and black sex links. 26 birds in total. So far, I caught 3 coons, 2 skunks, and a mink within 100 yds of the coop. I trap year round on the farm, but I try to stay 250+yds away from the house because of my wifes stupid dog. I pulled some conibear traps in close for a few nights and baited with dead chickens.

They'll be layin before you know it! Chickens are nice to have around, and teach kids responsibility if there's any of them around. I don't see how in the heck the store can sell eggs for 80 cents a dozen though.....
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

There are usually lots of poults and chickens listed on Craigslist. Lots of folks seem to think they're worth more than they are although if you check regularly you can find good deals.
Eh...wot?

You can buy a lot of animals off of Craigslist at well below production costs. I make a lot of money buying animals at below my production cost and immediately selling them to my meat buyers. The reason is most sellers are hobbyists, who care little about profit. Anyone doing it for a living would quickly go broke selling at the prices many people sell livestock for. Keith

Some of the laying hens I've seen listed were priced so high I was tempted to ask if they laid golden eggs!

Some of the laying hens I've seen listed were priced so high I was tempted to ask if they laid golden eggs! I think some people price stuff they are selling really high, because they don't really care if they sell it. They probably figure there is some sucker out there who will pay an exorbitant price for their item, if it's up long enough. Often a spouse or significant other tells someone to get rid of something and by pricing the item high, the person can hold onto the item, without angering them. Most people, often erroneously, equate higher price with better quality. It's often easier and quicker to sell something for a moderate price, than a really low price. Keith
