https://polarresearch.net/index.php/polar/article/view/3512/9288https://www.foxnews.com/science/arctic-fox-norway-canada-epic-journeyA 1-year-old arctic fox trekked more than 2,000 miles – forging across vast expanses of sea ice – from Norway to Canada in just 76 days, setting a new record and stunning scientists. The young female left the Svalbard Archipelago of Norway on March 26, 2018, and reached Canada’s remote Ellesmere Island on July 1 of that year, the Norwegian Polar Institute said in new research published last week.

Looking at that world map like that makes me wonder why it took the Europeans so long to discover North America. A little canoe trip across some ocean and bam! New life!

American Indians have European DNA, even the old skeletons pre Columbus have Western Euro DNA. The mound building the Pyramids, cocaine found in Egyptian mummy, there is little doubt in my mind that someone knew how to sail across the Atlantic before the Norse and Columbus.

Impressive journey for sure. However, Svalbard is almost 500 miles north of Norway which shortens the distance a bit. Not that I would want to make that journey but the fox didn’t take off from Oslo which the headline may imply.

Clark A young female left Spitsbergen (Svalbard Archipelago, Norway) on 26 March 2018 and reached Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada, 76 days later, after traveling a cumulative distance of 3506 km, bringing her ca. 1789 km away (straight-line distance) from her natal area. The total cumulative distance traveled during the entire tracking period, starting when she left her natal area on 1 March 2018 and ending when she settled on Ellesmere Island on 1 July 2018, was 4415 km.
