The Civil War created the country we have today. It flipped the ship. No longer was it the people, the state, the federal government, it became just the opposite. It created the bloated bureaucracy we have today. ...yessir....spirit of 1776 died in that war....the wrong side won

Although America was late getting to the fighting,I would say the second world war is what made America a world power to be reckoned with. This was due to their economic might.
Prolly the most accurate statement Boco ever made. lol

That's funny Pike River. I would argue that northern textile mill owners and those who worked in that thriving industry benefited more off the backs of plantation workers than the majority of southerners in that era. Just because southerners held to the idea that the country should be made up of individual states(that decided their own way), instead of being controlled by a federal entity much like a king, did not make them wrong even if slavery was wrong. A prime example of how it should work is abortion. If the people of the state of Arkansas decided that abortion should be illegal but Wisconsin thought it should be legal, then each state would choose it's on path. Morality, society, technology, etc. would decide the final outcome whether on the state level or national level. That's the spirit of 1776 that was lost which Savell mentioned.

....Mr Staton ...it’s best we just let the high and mighty bask in this glory they’ve created.... after all, is there anything better than an egalitarian society where a mans only goal is to be lower than the lowest common denominator?

There is no single event that made the U.S.A. what is today. It is a cumulative effect.
While it is 100% true we have less freedom today than we had just 50 years ago we still have a lot. In fact we have less than we had even 30 years ago.
Seems like people are waking up to the fact loss of liberty is not good. People who own TV stations and other media outlets are still trying to control what we think but it seems to me that every day fewer people will stand for it.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Providence is what created America. Nothing more, nothing less. IMO. Nailed it.

clearly we would not be the US without the revolutionary war
the French and Indian war was a great trainer for the revolutionary war , but it didn't make the revolution happen.
every war since clearly shaped the America of today.
but the American revolution didn't have to happen, had events been different April 19th 1775 all that had transpired before would very likely not have taken us to war.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Providence is what created America. Nothing more, nothing less. IMO. Nailed it. Apparently Providence wasn't on the side of the folks who lived here before the arrival of the white man.

The slaughter of natives, as well as the slaughter of settlers was not the works of Providence but rather the works of the Adversary. Unfortunately this is to often the case even in today's world.

Providence along with Manifest Destiny are simply arrogant and racist concepts used by Christians to excuse the atrocities they committed during the destruction of native cultures throughout the Americas.

The only ones I know claiming Providence being used as an excuse are the ones who stand against Providence and in alliance with the Adversary.

If the adversary is the devil described in genesis its a fairy tale. The advisory doesn't exist. Unless your loving benevolent creator created it, and if that's the case how could he truly be the adversary? Wouldn't the adversary in fact be a benefactor? The only other possibility is the entire thing was made up by some ancient desert chieftain to help him maintain power and control of his tribe.

Probably would've ended up being southern Canada.

Only time I've seen this country united was 9/11, and then it was only for a few weeks, then it fell back into what it is now and worse, due to the politics we have, and that is due to those who will not be educated when they vote.
This country for one reason or another has always been divisive with it's self, during all wars, and during any economic crisis it fights within it's self for any kind of positive progress !
The only war that was even close to total support was the second world war, because of a country trying to take advantage of a sleeping giant, we were caught off guard because of ignorance !
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !
