had a buddy tell me hes got a pond that he needs the catfish and turtles removed....im just gonna jug it.....its pretty deep. and no boat.........I plan on being able to use my fishing pole with a treble hook to grab the jugs..............but need an idea on how to add something to the jugs to make them easier to snag...........a simple jug really has nothing to grab onto.
you fellas got any ideas??

Are you anchoring the second smaller jug so they don't tangle and become just 2 jugs stuck together. Wolf puppy shot a line across the pond with his sling shot or some thing like that and anchored both ends. I think one end had more line then then other end so he could pull It In and check It then go to the other side of the pond and pull It back Into place. I'm sure he will chime in.

You could use tie wire or snare cable between the jugs with the 2 jug method. The jugs are not apt to tangle and you will have a consistent gap to cast across . Just a thought .

I had thought of the very same thing about 1 hour ago.........but was thinking coat hanger wire. wrap it around the necks of 2 liter bottles.........then having the drop line tied off to one of the necks...............but I guess I could ut a loop in the wire in the center to keep it from sliding. def appreciate the ideas gang. i'll make up a few after work today and grow throw em out tomorrow

Is the perimeter clear of brush/trees? If not it's gonna be very hard to cast a catch line. Can you just tie on an anchor line to the bank and pull them in? I modified a telescoping golf ball retriever with hook to snag jugs from a canoe.

Are you going to anchor the jugs or let them free range?

The jugs will most likely end up on the down wind side of the pond at some point In time. Or your catch will have them pulled In to cover along the shore. Or you can just get yourself a large inner tube and paddle It around retrieving your jugs. Besides that your going to have to be checking those jugs and re bathing them all the time so I would be getting some type of floatation set up.

I've jugged a lot of small ponds and greatly prefer using a canoe to retrieve my jugs over hooking them out, with a fishing pole. Turtles and catfish seem to find and entangle any dead wood, cut cattails, other aquatic vegetation and debris. They will entangle stuff so well, especially cover for fish, that is anchored to concrete blocks, that you would need aircraft cable and a winch or heavy chain to get it out from shore.

Keith I nearly had to don scuba gear a few years ago when a 20# snapper wrapped itself under a buried water fountain supply line.

Anyhow I do jug ponds from the shore. Just toss them out up wind in they drift down wind as far as re tribal I use a rod I can cast a good distance with. I tie a trebel go in on the end of the line then add a weighted cigar float and then another treble hook about a foot up and some larger split shots above that treble hook . When I see a jug take off I try to cast across it's path. The cork keeps the hooks off the bottom but the spli show sin the first few feet if line so if it stats bobbing there will be a few feet on line under water and give a better than I'd snaging than if the line was directly on the bottom or strictly floating. Anyhow Thu usually pull the jug right over the line and I real in the slack o almost always snag the jugs line. Now if the jug is static in the water I'll cast past it a few yards and walk the shore so my line make a U shape around it. Tighten up the slack and I can usually catch it
