Okay … It has been about 40 years since I have set lines for snapping turtles. What size hooks do most of you use. My memory has failed me. I had set line for about 25 years before that, but can't remember. I keep thinking a 6/0 or 8/0 … help me out here, please. A friend is having some problems in his pond. I have a spool of size 19 CMI Twine, I think is heavy enough.

I'd err bigger due to size limits.

I used to use 8/0 but when they made the size limit I switched to Hoop Nets. Let me know if ya wanna borrow a net.

If the purpose is to extirpate snapping turtles from the pond. I would use a smaller 1/0 stout hook to catch big and little ones. Cut fish makes good bait.

I've one hoop … but think pond in too deep for it. One guy I know tried to trap it for rats a few years back said he couldn't wade it anyplace, even with chest warders. There are quite a few willows over hanging the water, so figure would have to go to hook and lines.
