What kind of traps do you use? What type of sets? What are the best baits? What type of locations do you look for to find skunks? Cages, you don't have to use a full sized cage either..(preference). I like to cover my cages a with a piece of rubber, luan or 1/4 ply. Keeps them calm and limits their exposure to people, animals etc and is a lot easier to handle on pickup..less they see the better off you are. I use our own skunk bait/lure. For location If you aren't seeing any sign, I'd throw out a trail cam with the bait you plan on using in the area you plan on trapping to see what comes along. Critter specific "bait/lure" doesn't exist yet, all about the odds and what comes by first. There are odors that skunk are more prone to committing to, but the chance is always there for animal interest. jmo, imo, imho

Plan on smelling like.skunk and everything you own smelling also. The wife might not like it much either. Some guys say there is no smell but they have just went nose blind. I don't care how many you trap and handle, you will get some smell on you.
Wish I had more time to trap....

Put a 155 BG In a box. Then you don't have to sweat the put down.

Skunks are fairly self explanatory, make notes of road kill, there is a reason they cross were they do. Set the ditches where legal. Hay stacks/ abandoned houses/shelter belts will produce well in your area. Covered cages/tubes/plasti-catches help with the potential wrecks. I run more and more 2 door walk through tubes on trails and in culverts, but single doors produce just as well. I like paste type baits smeared on the roof of a tube. Rodents are the biggest enemy, they will eat or pack off most kibble/dry type baits.
Learning a skunks mannerism's will help in production capture and knowing just how too prevent the wrecks.

I just can't see running cage traps when BGs are more effective .

220's work great, but beagles can be a problem. 155 or 160 probably better.
Don't know your restrictions on land there?

You don't need a big bodygrip to nail skunks, but you do need one with very strong springs and good clamping force to kill them quickly. My favorite skunktrap is the sauvageau c-120 magnum with strike bars.
