I'll be focusing on rats this fall, hopefully with a long weekend chasing beaver. Dont expect to make much money though!

I am torn, i am usually a water man but I didn't get my deer or elk tags so i am considering going to the east side of our state to chase cats and coyotes.I do think that i will expand my beaver efforts though.

I'll look for a couple good rat pockets, f or starters, and then go from there. There is 7 months of trapping season here.

I think that coyotes are still going to be pretty much the only thing really worth going after here in ND. Also where I am at I don't really have a whole lot of water to go after much else other than some coon and K9's.

I don't think that coyote prices are going to be near as high as they have been. I am making this impression based upon Canada Goose's stock holder conference call in which the company reported that they expect to miss their projected revenue by around 25%. I figure that means 25% of the value of a coyote got wiped out. Going to be risky buying them this fall/winter at their current price. I know that the company is trying to expand in to new markets in China, which might mean new demand, but apparently the battle with Hauwei and extradition prompted some sort of call to boycott Canada Goose. If I went out and bought 50 dollar carcass coyotes, I am sure the market would all out tank and I'd take a loss after all the work, heat, electricity, etc. Doesn't seem like any business would want to take that risk this year, therefore I think prices are going to be hurt.

And since it seems like the only thing propping up a majority of the fur market is fur trimmed hoods, then everything else for the most part will be hurting as well.

Unless there is some unknown new fashion trend that is about to take off, I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel right now.

Anymore, you cant even speculate in the middle of an auction and be right in the next 10 minutes!

Regardless of price I will probably spend a week chasing coons, and then spend the rest of the season chasing coyotes and cats with some random beaver otter and muskrat thrown in

I will trap same as I always do.I will let the animals dictate effort in order to keep the lines healthy.
Cant manage a trapground based on the price of fur.Neglect it too long and you will be playing catch up when the next market rise happens, like it always does.Gotta stay ahead of the curve and market what you got according to market conditions.

S.O.S. I only have six relatively low ROI species available anyways.

I plan on going back to the road ditch where I pitched all of my worthless coon hides and pick up all the aluminum cans I saw there. That should pay for my gas quicker than coon trapping...

I’m leaving the marten alone and going after lynx and maybe fox. Plus every wolf and wolverine possible.

Haha.. now that's absolutely hilarious! I started to finish your sentence in my head and thought you were going to say something about road trapping coon.

I do think i will chase a few coyotes locally -- even though my mud dogs are usually not worth anything. I think that the main reason for chasing beaver is the castor -- hard to justify the effort on the pelt.
