I had an encounter in the woods on a old logging road. I came upon a guy and his truck that backed up on a water bar about 500 yards form the town road. I asked him if he needed help looked like the trucks frame was sitting on the water bar. He started going off about the government and saying he was running from the law of NH. I said ok and good luck and left on my ATV. I tried to contact the land owners forester, then called the state police. They told me they needed landowners to say the guy wasn’t allowed on the property. The next day the police got in contact with the forester. The state police asked me to go see if he was still there as they didn’t want to waste their resources if he had left. I thought he would be stuck there. I reluctantly said ok but added why don’t you send me one officer or a game warden. The officer replied no one was available. So I camoed up pistol and 100 rounds and binoculars. Went in circled high around and at about 85 yards I could see red color of the truck and heard him talking and playing the radio. I went back out marked the road about 300 yards from him with sticks forming a arrow to direct the police to his location. Informed the police he’s still there. Four hours later the police went in and he was gone.
I went back up the next day to see if he may have came back and nothing there except some potato chips poured on the ground and a 3”x4” piece of blue cardboard. I meet a local guy that lives 1/4 mile away from the end of road and said the guy had been there a week and he himself had also ran into him in the woods and was himself sleeping with a loaded gun knowing the guy was up in the woods. I asked him why didn’t he call the police if he was afraid of the guy. Said he probably should have. So the police said call if he comes back they can now act because they have the forester permission. I got a call back from the forester and had been on a short vacation and didn’t have cell service where he was and didn’t receive my call until later when going home. We talked and he thanked me for my calling him and the police. The forester is a great guy and I have always helped him out and he allows me to have written permission to hunt, trap and ATV the property. Only thing I wonder about is if the guy was there for a week he left very little sign of being there no camp fire, almost no garbage. No foot tracks on the muddy roads. I don’t believe he could have seen or heard me when I checked to see if he was still there. The foliage is thick and I could only see a very small patch of red color of the truck using my binoculars and the radio was playing. I worry about him coming back because he felt safe and nobody bothered him. Today I’m putting a trail camera high up in a tree at the beginning of the road which is the only way into the property. Anybody have any suggestions?

because it is his place to hunt , atv and use and all he has to do is inform the forester of strange or unwanted activity.

if he doesn't report it and the guy makes a mess he might be blamed for said mess and loos his access , that is why get involved.

i pay way too much in taxes and tag fee's and such to become involved in anything that don't involve my 50 acres.time's "they are a changin."

never thought i'd be carrying around my little farm either but guess what.

The Beav I got involved because the landowners let’s me use his 2300 acres to hunt, fish, trap and ATV on and in return I am to watch over the property and inform the management forester who is 3 hours away. I will hold up my end of the bargain as they have done for me.

If the guy is running around telling complete strangers that he is running from the law, I doubt he will be running for very long. lol

Sounds like someone with paranoia, I wonder if he came across your arrow pointing at him and it freaked him right out and that's why he left

Trapping is easy you say? You try getting your target animal to step in a 3 inch area of its whole territory.

Bullox it’s possible he could have. I was concerned about the elderly women living alone 100 yards from the woods road. He husband was a WW2 veteran and passed away 3 months ago. I checked on her and she was fine and her teenage grandson was staying with her for the summer. I advised her of the guy in the woods.

When he told you he was wanted by the law you should have made a citizens arrest on him and called the law telling them such.

It sounds to me like your encounter with the man in the woods involved a person suffering from paranoid schizophrenia.

Some years ago, a lady ran into my office. She said there were people after her that were going to harm her. I offered to call the police. She said, Don't do that, they are in on it too. When I said I didn't know how else I could help then, she left my office shouting some nasty words at me. I found out later she was a patient in an adult day care situation and suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and was obviously delusional.

Trapper7 I was thinking the same thing. I just hope he gets some help before something happens and someone gets hurt.

I agree. He could be a danger to himself as well as others.

I agree, or at least try talking with the guy and ask him to leave yourself. Too quick to get police involved in my opinion. Packing 100 rounds and camoing up 😂

The look in this guys eyes and his ranting made myself just want to get away from him. On my return trip to see if he was still there per the police request and going alone and I didn’t want to be seen or confront him. Well call me a coward for going armed and ready to defend myself if the unexpected happened.
