I can't imagine an ermine running FROM a squirrel. But it DOES look that way

I agree it's a squirrel.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Maybe the Squirrel has a nest that the Ermine poked his head in? I think a lot of norms go out the window when critters are defending nest/young.

I believe its a squirrel also- not only its movements and tail seem so, turning the sound up- definitely hear squirrel sound, to me.

I have seen red squirrels very aggressive in behaviour , depending on mood, and time of year. In fall Ive seen them act crazy in their frantic gathering food times...even killing birds at my feeders if they can catch them. I wouldn't have believed that If I hadn't of seen it happen.

Many animals react to what they see as a predator anyway , it wouldn't surprise me if the squirrel saw the ermine as something to chase regardless.

Travel in those woods it would be advised you have to be armed for speedy ground attacks.

Have seen Red squirrels chase many things several times their size. For the size challenged it seems an aggressive offense is the most successful defense. Rodent incisors are not sometime to be ignored either. Red squirrels don't JUST eat pine cones and mushrooms.

I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

Those Pineys got some brass !
You'd know that if you ever grab one bare-handed.
I agree with a Pine squirrel chasing down an ermine.
A case of "And the meek shall inherit the earth..." (except in Alaska ) smile

There is only one animal that can keep pace with a weasel.
Another weasel.
Holy crap those things are fast.
