As you know I recently lost my uncle. Even though I grew up next door to him all I knew about his service as a Marine was he was in the Korean War. He never spoke of it at least to my brothers and I, even as we became adults. Most elders I know hardly ever talk about their war stories.

Today I learned he fought in 3 tough battles: Battle of Pusan, Battle of Inchon and the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. The Battle of Chosin Reservoir is known as one of the most renowned battles in Marine Corp history.
If you haven't heard of The Battle of Chosin Reservoir look it up. Over 4000 KIA and over 7000 froze to death in the -34°F temperature

Even in his last days he fought a hard declining health battle all while still being married to his bride who deals with dementia.

He will be buried in the NM National Cemetery with full honors.

Oorah!

The Korean War was (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). I had two uncles that fought that war, one badly shot up and the other never made it home at the Battle of Unsan.

Snapped Trap, yeah it was. I am sorry to hear about your uncle's. If the one that was wounded is still alive thank him for his service for me. I did a little reading about The Battle of Unsan, sounds like it was intense.

adam m, my Uncle John who was severely injured in Korea spent years at Walter Reed Army Medical, married his nurse, had 3 sons, lived and worked till retirement, then moved to Florida to this day. As for his older brother, who still is Missing In Action, was also a WWII veteran in the U.S. Navy(Pacific) w/ 4 Purple Hearts + 1 in Korea before Unsan.

Had an uncle who froze his feet over there. Never did walk "normal".
I need to spend some time reading how we ever really got mixed up in that one.
God Bless your Uncle.

Zim

Snapped Trap, wow your uncle's are incredible. 1 Purple Heart is incredible but 5 says a lot about him. I am sorry he is MIA and I pray one day your family will have closure one way or another.

Zim that's wild. Did he lose several toes due to frost bite? The Korean War makes me wonder how many safety precaution advancements were created from this war? Especially dealing with below 0 temps.
The more reading I do about the Korean War the more I'm stunned. I need to read up on how we got involved in it too.
