Because I don’t get it. Daughter and I drove about 3hrs to the NTA . What we did is go through all the vendors first to get an idea of what we wanted. Then went to watch demos . In in between demos we wrote down what we were going to buy so we didn’t make any emotional decisions. We then went back to the places and bought the items that we had on our list. We came to one particular vendor and asked to buy a product they had displayed. (Price was 55) I was told they did not have any for sale. I was told they sold the last one, but the guy had to get money out of the ATM and was coming right back. I jokingly said I have cash and would buy it now . I was told they said they would hold it and the guy was coming back. ( I get that and have no problem ) I then said I would buy the display model, I was told “ we can’t sell it until tomorrow “ (I’m thinking that you have two items that are not sold I have cash and am a willing buyer ??????) they asked me to walk around and come back... daughter and I walked slowly around the outside loop and came back ... still no sale ? Mind you this is at least 15 mins from initial contact until last contact. I was told I could order it and they would ship it..... no kidding I have that option year round. I wanted to save the $14 on shipping. If the goal is to sell product, why not sell the product? I certainly was not being belligerent but I was and am still very confused. Why not sell the display model so others don’t have to go through what I just did ( being turned down) I’m not upset I really just don’t get it.

I have had that happen before.Someone asked me to hold an item for them and I agreed. While I was doing something my wife sold the article.
When the person came back I said, sorry it sold. They were perturbed because I promised to hold it for them.
I just reminded them "If you snooze you lose".Since then I don't hold anything unless they put a down payment of 25%.

I've run into that before, sometimes it seems they are working hard to NOT sell something! Very frustrating.

Bet he's saying what didn't I get a bigger truck and bring more? My thought is he didn't want the get rid of it til he himself was ready to leave. He gets that much more exposure. But I just guessing he didn't want to sit there with none for show.

Sometimes I watch sharktank and people will come in with an rediculous appraisal of their invention, knowing full well no body will make an offer. But they get it seen on tv by millions.

The man made a commitment to a customer and needed the last one for display, I don't understand what you don't understand.

And maybe the guy gave his word and no amount of money is worth breaking his word.
Then maybe some (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) suggested doing just that.
Maybe he decided said (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) gets nothing.

I get making a commitment - no problem with that at all - the ATM was just outside the door . And he was “coming right back”I did not need to buy the one “held” I wanted the display- think about it . Why keep the display and go through “ we are sold out and can’t sell this item until the last day” how about sell the item and not go through this same experience over and over . It’s not like I live an alternative lifestyle and want a cake for a wedding . Again not saying I’m right - I just don’t understand that’s all - oh I never said it was a guy manning the both

I wish those folks no ill will at all

I'm one of those guys that wants to look at and handle items I'm contemplating to purchase. Might that be why he was hanging on to his "dealer sample".

Maybe he wanted the display on hand for folks to handle in person, even if he wouldn't sell it. The one thing I dont like about buying online (besides paying for shipping) is not being able to get my mitts on it before I pay the man. It sounds like it wasnt a commonly available item (otherwise you would've just bought one from another vendor) so likely there were others there that wanted the same item and would be willing to buy it online later if they could feel it and see it in person beforehand.

I get your frustration though. Last year at our state convention I was looking for some #2 straight link import chain and called a few of the bigger vendors ahead of time to see if they would have any or if I could order it and have them bring it so I could save on shipping. All but one said no to both. The one vendor that agreed said they would make a note and set it aside for me. I had a booth of my own, so I was there first thing in the morning the day it opened and when I went to the booth and asked about the chain, the guy there was the same guy I talked to on the phone, and he didnt have the chain.

I only wanted 50', so not a big order ,but I was unimpressed with the outcome.

I am going to look at this from the dealers angle. If I make a commitment to some one such as the man who said he's going to be back later, I'll honor that commitment. And being a dealer who wants people to see my merchandise I will keep one around for more to see the product in the next day or two. Till the end of the convention. Yes , he may have missed out on a sale but he may gain 10, 15 or more sales where he can ship later just because he had a product on hand for all to see. .

I’m not really frustrated- I have lived without the item my whole life - it is a luxury not a necessity . Kind of like using a five gallon bucket instead of a trapping basket - it won’t change my life - I certainly get the hands on on see it in person

Appreciate the feedback fellas

I get your frustration. Don't want to derail this thing but they ( NTA ) have quite a few folks PO'ed today. Probably our faults for not reading the fine print, but having to join NTA to see most of the demo's I don't get. Been to our convention's and even FTA in Kansas and not seen this. We had 14 people in our group including 9 that had bought the 2 day entrance deal because of demo's we wanted to see tomorrow, that's $230 there then needing to pay another $420 to see some demo's. No Thanks, there was a lot of cussing going on this morning and not from us so I'm guessing they disgruntled quite a few folks. The state conventions don't have this and they have some of the big named folks do them so we didn't get it. If it's about joining then make it that you have to be a member to get into the convention then. Otherwise had an ABSOLUTELY wonderful time walking around talking to folks and getting some of there products. And I'm all for charging to get into the convention, I wish and voted for Mo to charge an entrance fee to there's. I know from the grumblings of quite a few people today that this was the last NTA they will attend. Sorry rant over just took a lot of people by surprise is all.

I find it hard to believe a vendor there won't take a card. Heck one guy told me he went and got a extra credit card just for the Nta.

Communication,a lot of problems could be avoided if you are straight up and lay it out there.

You don't want your booth to look empty. It's important to have things to display. Selling the display model leaves an empty spot.

And, just because he doesn't have anymore in stock at the show doesn't mean the display model won't result in some online sales. There will be some that will see whatever it was at the show and decide to purchase it later. Those sales will never happen if there is no display model on display.

Just commenting on the thread title

Did you ask your wife? Mine would still be telling me stuff i did from before we even meet.

Vendor is honoring his word and wants the display to show to more potential customers.

This. He needs the display to show customers what is available. You can't haul everything to a show.
