Wild_Idaho OP trapper Joined: Feb 2018 Posts: 4,100 Bonner County, Idaho	I've got a 55 gallon drum filled with dry sifted dirt. I'm figuring it's around 400 pounds? Is that an accurate guess? It's probably 8 or 10 inches from the top of the barrel... so mostly full. Reason I'm curious is to know roughly how much flake wax to buy. Doing the solar method to make waxed dirt this summer. 10bands trapper Joined: Nov 2013 Posts: 2,692 Meridian, Idaho	probably 600 pound range with a not quite full drum of sifted dirt. cubic foot of dirt averages 75-110 pounds. 55 gallon drum is a bit over 7 cubic feet. With those numbers you're 500 minumum

Well hey, leave it to a jarhead to finally realize... why don't I just weigh a gallon of it and then multiply that by 50 (about what's in there). derr derr derrr. red mt trapper R Joined: Oct 2014 Posts: 5,079 montana	Depending on how you intend to make your dirt will choose how much wax you will use in pratice. I store all wax dirt or dry dirt in a 55 gal. Drum as well. Typical mix I tend to use is 15 gallons of dirt to 10 lbs of wax made in a mixer heated slowly useing a source outside of the mixer drum. Weight of a drum of dry ,,, I have no idea .
