I believe the nontypical (huge/odd) items go for more on the taxi page go for more as it's often used as a sample for shows and competitions more so then for the resale market lots of pride in winning those awards so they pay a little more. I'm happy with that average and the others will bring the same I will just add the tanning fees on them but they bring nothing in the freezer.

Selling them in the grease is a safer bet then going through the work and messing them up as working with the tails can be iffy, once you mess them up the value drops drastically.

List them, sell them, ship them for me is the way to go then move on to the next project and start all over. On the taxi page if you drop off the front page you might not sell it let the competition on there work for you. I'll take $50 for a skunk any day the ones that stand out will bring $75 easy with the wider white stripes in the 14lb range.

How you shipping them in the grease? Who is paying for the shipping? Good job not selling sending to an Auction or furbuyer.

LD has done a lot of work to get where hes at, his buyers have probably bought his product before and the furs are exceptional keep that in mind when you're longlining skunks

I skin to the toes they can finish the way they want to, they pay $20 shipping I pay over that to keep it simple. They are shipped I a styrofoam box frozen body out with ice packs added then priority mail.

Hand picked them I just was lucky this year to get that many nice ones most years it's about 2 that make that grade. Less skunks equaled better skunks last year some years 1 or 2 select huge ones out of a 100 is more common.

I’ve sold several skunks in the $50-$75 range but not in a while. Our skunks are considerably smaller than LD. I have a few nice ones in the freezer waiting for the right price. I agree that maybe 1/50 make the white stripe standard. I dorsal skin mine to the ankle and cut the head off. I do no prep and I’m assuming that’s why I haven’t sold any in a while.

Body size benefit (Bergmann's rule) comes into play when the species is subjected to longer cold weather periods. It stays cold plenty long in SD. Increased body size would be an advantage for survival there.

Lots of feed here mudpuppies, grasshoppers, frogs (when wet), crickets, nightcrawlers and rodents are plenty. I got one the other day and the bung was full of June bug shells, plus the grains that they have in abundance also.

Sold 75 ounces of stink last month to "my guy" that takes all I can get him he even picks it up to save the shipping nightmares.

Was taught the same thing. My dad's quote " crap don't taste too bad if you get paid enough to eat it."

Length is not always the golden rule for me buying skunks, color and stripes are first, girth is second
Then length, when you make a lot of hats you will understand why ! However its great you can get such an average as that !!
