Razorbacks? Havelinas? Or were they all imported?
A local fella in SE Nebraska wanted to turn loose hogs on a piece of land so he could sell hog hunts. He about got tarred and feathered by the farmers.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Only the peccaries aka javelina are native and they aren't true swine.

What about the guy who wanted to import Russian wild bore and sell hunts. Those critters do extremely well in subzero weather so who knows what would come of that!

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Simple question from a simpleton in Wisconsin.
Why in God's name would you pay money to hunt a pig
when good bacon is $5 a pound in the store?
Now shooting a deer is a different deal altogether.

Eurasian wild boars were imported to Graham County, NC. I suppose Arkansas also.

Gotta hand it to the first guy who saw a hog laying in a mudhole and thought "I bet that thing would be delicious!"

USDA here says there was some Russian blood in some they trapped here in Ohio.

Some people don't put a lot of thought into "exotics". We had a guy busted in the northern part of the state for releasing hogs in the area then going in and trying to charge farmers to chase and kill em with dogs.

Maybe he was related to the dope who released carp into our Waters in the 19th century and thought it was a good idea

I bet its illegal to release swine into the wild. It is in Ks. In an effort to prohibit anyone from turning them loose its also illegal to hunt them without a special permit I believe.

Pretty much illegal to transport live wild hogs across state lines. Some states permit hauling ones you catch onside to butchers or licensed hunting preserves.

All true pigs have Russian boar ancestry.

Hence, you get your plott hounds. The plott balsams near waynesville. Then 30 years back, the local boys wanted more to run their hounds by and diluted the Russian strain. I believe NC considers them all feral now.

California has long had a feral hog problem, but many years ago David Packard, co-founder of Hewlett Packard released Russian boars on his hunting land on the central coast. Over the years the feral pigs we shot looked more like the boars we shoot here in France, except the color variation still exists.

Our numbers in France and Spain are steadily rising despite heavy driven hunting pressure 4 months a year. There is talk of making them a nuisance animal but I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

Forty years ago in California there was no pig tag. Then for twenty years you could buy 5 tags for $10 or something like that, now they get around $25 a tag. Thank God a lot of folks shoot them and let the vultures benefit.

The answer to the original post question is no. No hogs are native to North America. All were introduced.

There has been wild hogs at Harlan County Reservoir in Nebraska for a number of years. The State kills a pickup load or two every year but I don't know how the battle is coming. I know exactly where they came from. A hog farmer up by Orleans let his hogs wander and they ended up at Harlan County.

I'd love to go, cause they're tough, nasty buggers, that are a real challenge if you fail to drop them immediately, but I don't buy expensive hunts. I'd like to take my bucket trips one day, but with 3 kids, I don't see that happening.
