Has anyone done a trapping trip?

I’ve been to Louisiana tuna fishing, and Florida fishing as well

I headed to Georgia last October where I killed a hog but the whole time I heard coyotes and thought, should’ve packed half a dozen #2s

This fall I’m heading to Canada after moose, and the year after, or the next I’m heading to Maine to hunt woodcock and grouse with my girlfriends step father.

As you can see, I have zero problem traveling to hunt and fish, so I think it’s only fair I do one trip in my life focused on my love for trapping.

If anyone has any stories or info please share

That's awesome. Continue doing what you love. I worked three jobs when I was in my twenties and thirties to fish, hunt and trap. I had no problem getting on a plane on a Friday and be back to work on monday. I still do out of state adventures, but with a house and wife. My get a ways are less. Continue pursuing your passion. Might do a few excursions into the mountains this year. I have caught sight of fox and heard many a coyote. The problem is they have to be snow shoed after.

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

I've done trapping trips to Russia (1993/94) and Mongolia (2017). Last few years, wife and I take 7-10 days to different places in Idaho. Set up the wall tent, trap whatever's around. Always good trips and always memorable. Not always financially rewarding, but that's not why we do it. I highly recommend them.

Working out the logistics of doing this very thing . Hunting/trapping beginning up around Idaho with friends and working my way home through the more North and western states.

It'll probably end with me divorced....but what an adventure !!

Like hunting and fishing what is the reason. Is it the type of game or the type of terrrain, Just a vacation to catch some fur? Or a trip to pay the bills
Believe it or not,, I cant believe Im admitting this. But I trapped Indiana to catch my first opossum. Traveled to Wyoming to catch my first coyote.
While living in Washington I purposely trapped lower elevation to catch a nutria
California to catch a kit or swift fox.those were just for fun.I currently live in Idaho. I had never trapped a martin A few years I would go up to my dads deer camp, hunt the morning and evening, trap mid day.
Minnesotaa had a split season,..I would head north to hunt and trap that week, under the pretense to duck hunt
I also trapped other states for fur money and extended distances in my home state

About 4 years ago after the loss of a great friend, a similar thread came up. A guy in Nebraska put a offer out there for an out of stater to come trap with him. After texts & checking out the details I went from my home state of Indiana to trap in Nebraska... I didn’t want to keep putting off something that I wanted to do...
I went out there to:
New experience/ fun
Chance at new critters - bobcat & badger
Build some memories....
I could never of dreamed I’d of met so many great people there and they wanted me to come back again. Last winter was my third trip and each have been memorable...
Take the trips- go on the hunts- book the fishing trip one day you won’t be able to go, time will catch up with us all....build your memories...

The trap isn’t for financial gain or specific animals, or in fact different terrain. It’s simply just an experience I want to have!

I’d like to head to a northwestern state or northern Maine. I saw Idaho mentioned a time or two, Idaho would probably be the state I would pick to do this in.

Idaho would be a good choice. 72 hour check. Very reasonable rules. 32+ million acres of public land and sometimes it seems like nearly that many coyotes. And only around 2000 trapping licenses sold each year. If you're self contained you can pick a spot on the map and have at it. While they're pretty much everywhere I'd probably pick the southern half for coyotes. More sagebrush desert type terrain.

Alaska and Maine are places I'd love to trap and will in Alaska with a little luck season after this one.

Something about Maine always intrigued me. Maybe it’s the northern wilderness feel and remember seeing pictures of Walter Arnold and V.E. Wildcat Lynch living in and trapping Maine.

I've done a lot of them. Stayed in sheds, campers motels and tents. A good tent is your friend. You wont tear it up when your pushing in on a two track while in 4wd. Campers don't take much of that stuff. Fur storage is the biggest hurdle. You need access to a freezer or three. If your going someplace cold a generator works. Can run it a few hours if it warms up. You can also stretch skins till your out of stretchers to save on freezer space. I rented a chest freezer once in Iowa from a rent to own company. They brought it to the motel and picked it up when I left. That was nice. Most comfortable way to do it is rent a house. If your killing coyotes many times you can camp in a heated shed, with electricity, on a ranch. Just bring your coleman stove, and bed.

internet makes it a bunch easier. google earth is your friend. so is craigs list and the yellow pages

Depending on the road life takes me, I have a very good job, I’m only 20, I’ve been with my girlfriend for 2-1/2 years, but I’d like to buy land in northern Maine. But she wants a promotion to wife. So that means all my spending money will be redirected. Hopefully I can convince her that land is a good idea.
