Todays forecast here is low 90s, coolest day of this week. Then its all 100s starting wednesday through saturday.
I gathered and sifted 30 gallons of dry dirt yesterday all in clean 5 gallon buckets.
Last night I dumped a couple into two large black concrete mixing tubs that fit nicely in back of my truck, and mixed in the shaved wax.
These will ride in back of my truck today under my black tonneau cover where its gets very hot under there in the sun. At work today my truck sits in a parking lot in full sun...so I'll let the sun do its thing to the waxed dirt under that tonneau.
Tonight, let it all cool and mix it up, break up clumps, see if it needs more wax (volcano test with water) and if good once cooled it gets put up in clean 1 gallon milk jugs I've been gathering for couple months. If not I'll add more wax and drive to work tomorrow for another waxing day in sun.
Over course of this week with little effort I'll have 30 or so gallons of nice waxed dirt. I will go get some more sifted dirt this next weekend too. I try to shoot for at least 50 gallons when the summer is all said and done...but this week is definitely a good solar method weather week to do this project.
Got to make hay in the summer, folks!
Have a good day everyone. grin

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

jabNE, how long do you do the volcano test? I always use it too, and last night it rained hard and this morning the top layer of waxed dirt on the volcano was wet and the volcano was empty. The dirt under the top layer was still dry. It had been full of water for several hours before the rain. I am thinking maybe I didn't use enough wax?

Not sure. I just see if it sheds water and doesnt soak into the dirt after several minutes. I guess I could leave it longer I just didn't think to go longer than say 10-15 minutes or so. Water finds a home pretty quickly so I figured if it would happen it should do so fairly soon.

I make some in my wife's little green house.. I spread dirt on plywood add wax after it gets hot and dry. If I tried a to use a plastic tub not sure it wouldn't melt??? With that thing closed up in this weather?? Gets hot enough will melt some of the smaller plastic starter pots if left in there..

I just dried and swifter 60 gallons. Going to wax this weekend as suppose to get extremely hot. I got concrete and even some asphalt to lay a tarp on for solar heating. Never thought of just letting it process process in my truck like that. Going to have to get some tubs a d try that next year
