I've got a Buck 110 knife that I've had for years. Been looking at the pocket version of the same knife, the 55. Was in Blain's Farm and Fleet today and noticed the 110 was $39.99, the smaller pocket model 55 was $49.99. Why would a smaller knife be $10.00 more than the full size version? Marketing?

Probably simple supply and demand. They sell fewer folders so they have to charge more to justify manufacturing them. They may cost more to produce as well.

Economies of Scale- I'd be willing to bet there is a lot more automation employed on a Buck 110 (high volume) compared to a the smaller 55 (low volume), that is probably more labor intensive.

i would guess either the 110 is on sale or the 55 might be a special edition

if you go straight to buck, the 110 is $82 and the 55 is $66

I was at the NRA convention in Indianapolis a few months ago and was looking at a few Buck knives there. They had a booth set up and Mr.Buck was there, engraving his name on knives people bought. I looked at two different knives and one said "China" on the blade! What happened?!? I thought Buck Knives were all American?
I should have asked Mr. Buck about it, but I just walked away shaking my head....

Lots of "production" knives are made in China, Buck, Old Timer, Gerber, and many others...……..as the case with Buck and Gerber, SOME models are made in the US. You simply have to look close.
One would be amazed at how many different brands of knives are made in the same factory, shipped off the same "dock".

I understand that, I just thought that Buck Knives was not in that "group". I thought they were all made and assembled in America.

I have to check mine for China, never thought of it.
Think I have half a dozen or so.

I visited the Case facility in Northern Pa. Most impressive pile there.

Wright Brothers - That Case/Zippo showroom is amazing. My Dad was from Bradford, PA. My Grandfather retired from Case. I have a HUGE collection of Case knives that I inherited from him. All kinds of knives, a hatchet, steak knife set and many other items.

A folder does cost more to make and also the steel type maybe different. You want a good folder without breaking the bank checkout Kershaw.
