This little fella got out of the nest in a martin house and ended up on the ground. Both martins and sparrows in the house.

The picture is very poor, but most likely it's a purple martin. Sparrows have stronger beaks for cracking seeds.

If you put a better picture up we should be able to accurately identify it.

Martin.
The sparrows are in all likelihood the non native "english" sparrow, actually not a sparrow but a weaver finch, and should eradicated where ever found. They will foul your gourds/houses with nesting materials making them unhabitable by any other species. They have also been observed destroying the nest and eggs of other species such as bluebirds and martins.

Sparrows and starlings were one of my first paying nuisance wildlife jobs. A neighbor would pay me a dime for every one I shot out of his martin gourds, I was seven at the time.

When I was a kid the local FFA chapter would have a contest where members would gather feet from sparrows, starlings, pigeons, probly rat and mice too. Can't remember what the prizes were.
