I made a Lyman kit 30 years ago. Great fun project: https://www.lymanproducts.com/great-plains-rifle

It has killed a lot of deer.

wolfie , look at the stuff at "tracks of the wolf " , you are pretty well qualified to build something nice and use it well . see ya on the range pilgrim .

lebanon mo,
Lyman is a nice rifle but he wanted a Kentucky style . I have shot the kibler in 36 very well balanced and accurate. I have not shot the colonial rifle from kibler .

There's a big difference between kits and a bunch of parts. Track of the Wolf "kits" are more a bunch of parts that take time and skill to assemble into a fine shooting piece.

Just make sure you know what you are getting into before you drop that kind of coin.

Track of the Wolf, Pecatonica River Longrifles, Jim Chambers all make parts style kits that can make beautiful guns. If you go this route, do yourself a few favors and buy a good book and try to meet some people that built guns.

Stay away from Traditions if you can afford it. Their stuff fits like a round peg in a square hole. I just recently did a Traditions pistol (posted a thread about it) It turned out pretty good. However, I'm an experienced wood worker and a machinist by trade. Both of these skills helped. Not saying you have to be an expert but the traditions are made from cheap materials and tossed together. Everything will need tweaked.

I purchased a chambers early lancaster kit, all high quality parts. I took a look at the work involved and all the ways i could screw this up and ended up paying someone. to assemble. It and now have a fime rifle. These. Are not a bolt together. Kit.
