A debate of epic proportions currently in my mind. Should I buy snow shoes and capitalize on land trapping. (Alot of the mountain roads are closed in winter. ) or capitalize on water trapping. I don't care about the financial return. Im just looking at what I have and wondering which piece of footwear would help me more. I have a small bunch of 1s and 0s and a modest collection of 2s and 1.75 and 3s on their way. Hmm snow shoes or hip waders decisions decisions.

Depends on how much snow you get and how early it gets there.
Generally you wont need snowshoes until the snow is over a foot, foot and a half deep.
Even here where we get a lot of snow fairly early, you can still get a lot of trapping in before you need snowshoes.Wont need snowshoes here until after the first big snowstorm usually in early to mid Dec.
Hip waders get a lot of use on the trapline.

To me when trapping you never know what will come up. like I have hip and chest waders .I where the hips most of the time then you get in places that you need chest. and for snow shoes you never know when they are needed you can trap a area and then snow drop and find out you wish you have them.So I just cover all of it then have them when needed.

I own both, but judging on the size traps that you have I would stay in the water. I use my hip boots or waders far more frequently than the snow shoes.

Get both but do not wear them at the same time and you should be OK.

I appreciate all your input. Its been good. So your aware of my other plight I have to make sure. Its a 15ee foot size on the boot which limits my options. This will be a chunk of change. Lol

I can't help you with that decision. But where I am I would buy the waders and a pair of flip flops.

Snow shoes are a must for spring beaver trapping. [Linked Image]

Well, with 15 double ee's ya'll would be wasting money on snow shoes.
Just kidding, if you wear snow shoes when you are over water make
sure you can get rid of them in a hurry.
For me, about 18" of snow pack and temperature is when you decide which is easier.
I am sometimes amused by folks who "snow shoe" down a packed snow machine trail
that a guy could traverse in his bedroom slippers.
