I like to pass time goofying off "playing" harmonica. Its time to order a new one(don't ask) and I've always had one in the key of C but I'm curious about getting an A or G. I don't want more than 1 so I'm not about to get a whole set.

Any of you guys play the harp? Thoughts?

I played the Jew's Harp back when I was young. Apparently you are not supposed to call it that now.
A cousin of a co-worker of mine is a master with a harmonica, he can make more noise than a pee'd off goose.
Very entertaining to listen too.

That's the reason I chose C but I never play with anyone..Thinking some tunes might be easier with a deeper key.

C is the common one. I have a G and a Low D as well.
I participate in a harp forum and that has kept me practicing.

Interesting. Never occurred that there might be a harp forum. Got a link? Is it active?

I have a C to go with my guitar but I haven't bought the neck holder and my dog howls when I play.

Good luck.

I like the sound of "everyman' key of G". It has lower bass notes. I have one of Seydels "Session Steel" harps' in G that plays "fair".
A really good harp would cost more money than most folks would guess. It is frustrating to play a poor harp! LOL!

I’ve played the harp off and on for a long time. My Dad got me started when I was young. We often played together and he had an odd style which I learned from him. I like a hohner special 20 in the key of g. ( the people’s chord ). The special 20 holds up well and is easy to bend. Also have a c, d, and an a. Getting my granddaughter started is fun too. She’s playing a miniature harp she calls the baby.

Outstanding!
I have given a few harps to kids that were interested. Their parents were not quite as excited about it as the kid! lol!
When I worked( now retired), I carried a harp in my pocket all the time. If I got caught in a traffic hold up or just had to sit someplace for a while, I would pull out that harp. It's a Stress reliever and a great way to pass the time.
I have a good friend who started me playing. We hunt/camp together a couple times a year. We spent many night sippin "popskull" and playing music.

Every year since 2002, We have held an invitational squirrel hunt on the southern tip of Illinois. Folks come from all over the country and we hunt squirrels for about 5 days. Saturday night, we all throw stuff into a potluck dinner. There are some mighty fine cooks who show up for this thing.
After dinner, anybody who can play a musical instrument of any kind gets them out and we have a little jam session. Remember that we only see each other mostly about once a year. It's campfire music for sure but it sometimes goes on until almost daylight. (that's when real squirrel hunters are in the timber)
Anyways, A friend of mine made this little video of some of us doing the tune, "Dueling Banjos". It was fun!

Spotter, you're doing a good thing for your granddaughter. Next to making sure our sons did their best in school, Being sure they learn music. They started piano at 8 years old(kind rough listening to them for the first couple years) and now they all play several instruments. Guitars, saxophones, trumpet french horn, cello, harmonicas, and they even still sit down at they piano once in a while.

One of the best gifts you can give a person is the chance to play music. I always regretted only learning to play mostly just chords on my guitar.
