Before I comment, someone tell me if I'm reading this incorrectly please.

https://www.trappersreport.com/story/Teachers-indoctrinating-children-against-conservation

UPDATE: The two schools are in NYC (Brooklyn and Queens) now that I look at it but the organization is national, so could be used as blueprint anywhere.

I believe you're reading it correctly.

There is a lot of misinformation there, however. Kangaroos are nowhere near endangered, just as North American furbearers are not. In fact, I've heard many times on this site that modern trapping regs have helped furbearer populations thrive. Perhaps I'll search some scientific journal to back that up.
I don't understand why elephants were used as the first example considering the class' relation to the fur trade... I'm not aware of any uses for elephant hair. Also, I feel that bones are only broken when a trapper uses the wrong size trap (or not enough swivels lmao) for whatever animal they're targeting.

Not to mention that real fur is much more sustainable than synthetic... which is made from oil... which, as we all know... is a non-renewable resource. Real fur is also better than synthetic at holding in heat - super important for those living in the far north.

Was I correct in seeing them say...

1.) Here are endangered animals nobody traps anywhere in North America (where trapping for conservation is so important, clearly referencing "The United States" in the body of the critique, and with respect to trapped animals yearly).

2.) Trapping endangered species is wrong.

(here it comes... the NPR-style flip)...

3.) Therefore: All trapping is bad.
4.) If you know a trapper (which you do not) they're the opposite of conservation, and shame on them.
5.) Tell your friends.

(and they know this is a great base of kids to mess with: Because they're in NYC (Brooklyn and Queens) and they've had firmly removed from them (generationally) the demand for land, land, the demand for guns, and guns (four things).

"OH, and we're referencing as germane to our efforts": 1.) Peter Singer, champion of INFANTICIDE... and 2.) PETA.

In Public School.

I'd say... YEP.

Shame on them for misleading their students.

It's interesting to me, also.. They live in a HUGE city... the creation of which has destroyed habitat for & displaced who-knows-how-many animals.. Like...?

They mention poachers & illegal trade of certain species. How will stopping the fur trade end that if it is already being done... illegally?
All it would do is remove a source of income/enrichment for those who abide by the laws.

I live in Manhattan. The children of NYC have been so conditioned away from "doing any-thing." They have no land, and none in their purview. They "look at people's stuff" instead of "making stuff" it appears to me as I observe them on the street (I don't have kids).

THEN these kids "go to college" and persist this anti (on many fronts) sentiment (not them, but what they've been taught) throughout America. It's really sad. And it's around two million children forced into this vortex of defeatism.

A teacher in NY city has insight on the trapping industry? That's about as crazy as a stupid judge on the east coast determining that the wolves in MN are still endangered when the US Fish & Wildlife, who are the real experts, planned to delist them.

We are told not to judge all Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but are told to judge all gunowners by the actions of a few.

I'm always afraid when I see stuff like this from a "Federation of teachers" that they're really looking to develop a lesson plan from which teachers across the "system" can draw. Who knows, but it concerns me so much more.

And secondly, IF this is all about "endangered species," why the last two completely-unrelated-paragraphs: clearly with the intention of leaving the reader lies and off-topic attacks on trappers in the United States.

If you note the resource section all are animal rights type sites. There are no sites even from the endangered species organizations and the monitoring of those species. There are no sites or resources that talk about how and why species become threatened or endangered etc. Many species would have more management and resources if they were actively part of wildlife management agencies. Trapping is but one of a multitude of ways species can be harvested and it is highly regulated and structured and designed to not eliminate species.

I was in Manhattan for a week a couple years ago when the wife had meetings at the UN.
Glad I got the chance to visit.Lots of people crammed into a very small space.Nice place to visit but I sure couldn't live there.
