Earlier this year the creek on my property looked great. Lately it looks ugly brown. Any advice on clearing this up? I'm not aware of any upstream erosion or unusual activity.

I'm guessing somewhere upstream someones got some livestock.

Livestock, or runoff from all the rain we've been having recently. Someone pick or disc a field upstream in the last few days?

Water quality and clarity varies with the time of year. Summer is usually the worst.

Runoff should be less now with somewhat less rain than earlier and vegetation and canopy are probably near max. Fill a pail and see what is in the water, such as small algae, and other growth that may color the water. I can see the bottom in several places so you may be looking at stain in the water instead of debris. Once runoff slows then more water is coming from the ground water and in your area there could be a lot of tannic acide which along with iron can stain your water brownish or rusty iron color. Also biologic growth is at a max right now so there could be many contributing factors and a small stream or water body can change dramatically in a week to a few days with the heat units creating much growth.

Can't tell depth but you could try alternating. Small barriers on the sides. This will catch the silt and allow the water through UN hindered

However you may want to think about how noticible it would be. .

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

In Wisconsin there are significant limitations a land owner can do to streams and other bodies of water, with significant fines to go with the cases.

Yup, my creek always looks like rootbeer because of all the tannin.
