Never been before but gonna go up next week. I bought a permit for moose river south and reserved a pma permit. Plan to camp on big moose lake and take a side trip with my inflatable kayak to check out bezhik and neessh lakes in the pma. May camp a night out there if it’s worth it. I got 9 days before I have to be back. Anybody got any suggestions of lakes to fish I can get to in a day? There are a lot of permits available still but I don’t know anything about anything up there. Every lake I try to research comes with conflicting answers. Lol. One thing they agree on is need deep lakes to fish right now.

There are some long portages out of big moose I may try out. I just really have no concrete plans. I reserved big moose because it was available and only one permit a day. Somewhat of a dead end lake with such long portages but from what I’ve read, it’s pretty easy to get to with a few short portages and only three miles down the creek. Any suggestions I’m all ears. Main purpose is just chill out and dust off my fly rods but I travel lite and don’t mind long portage at all if it takes that. Also thought about trying for a big pike. My biggest was 28” or so. Just never used bigger baits. Thanks for any advice....shane

When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.

Bring bug spray. I quit going this time of year due to bugs. Sept 1 is perfect.

Bug spray and fish slow. The fish should deep and lethargic.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I guess I don't know what ( they) mean by deep lakes, but I am sure you will find plenty of action. Chilling out in the boundary waters...well heck,..that's what is all about.
You'll have a great time!

Feller I work with got back from that way last week. Hot and buggy but the fishing was great.
If you want I can find out what lakes he was on. I know those guys do some portaging way back in and cover a lot of area.
They were in the Quetico, on the north side of things.

The above bug reports are correct, Bugs are bad this year, especially deer flies. Checkout MNDNR lake finder. You can zoom in with the map and highlight the lake you want to check out. There is an amazing amount of lakes that will have available contour maps, fish surveys and other info about the lake.
