I bought a box of the 165gr polymer tip when I saw it on sale just to try out and it shoots extremely well out of my rifle (30-06). I am hoping someone has actually killed something with this ammo and can give me a first hand account on the bullet performance. Anybody got some experience with it???

Anything that comes out of a 30-06 will kill a deer if ya hit it in the right place.

I bought some in 308. I have shot two good size boar hogs with it, both dead. Both shots where broad side one had an exit wound one didnt. One didnt make another step, the other ran twenty yards.

Ive killed more than enough deer, just wanted experiences with this type of ammo/bullet. But thanks for the reassurance!

I found the less power a caliber has the more attention I have to give and test till I find the right bullet for what I want it to do ( kill game ) The more power there is behind said bullet, the less time I have to spend on the bench and range. The 30-06 is one of those calibers where one does not have to spend much time testing bullet types. Anything that has a soft tip hollow point etc. will just plain work. It just depends how big a hole ya want to eat around.

LOL Scuba, somebody once said that when they figured out the 30-06 they did it right.
Why is every cartridge compared to it?
What is there on the lower 48 that it wont kill deader than the newest super captain billy wizz bang magnum?

Zim

Shot several deer with nosler ballistic tips in my 270 late 80's early 90's. Till I had one run a good 1/4 mile before it tipped over. Bullet hit a rib and ricocheted left. Instead of busting that deers heart it deflected into the liver. Deer bled out internally but it went quite a ways. I went back to sierra boat tails and never had it happen again.

Nosler ballistic tips in my 22 250 have put a lot of fur on stretchers for me.

Zim I found that gun writerlings have got to make a living too. They make a better living if they promote whatever new fangled cartridge the manufacturers come out with to get a bigger piece of the ammo market. Its like fishing lures. They tend to catch more anglers than fish most of the time. Most are certainly better at removing dollars out of a fisherman's pocket than bass out of a pond. And the same with hunting ammo. And more so different calibers, half of them just re inventing the wheel one more time. If one was to believe some of the gun writers stories about the new cartridges that one need to put a bit of venison on the table, I would feel safer sitting behind a 150 pound deer than inside an APC when there is a lot of lead in the air.
