Which notch is 'the first notch' on Conibears?
Inside or Outside notch?

I always considered the first notch as the first one the jaw gets to when setting so that would be the outside notch on the dog.

The inside notch is the one closest to where the dog is attached to a jaw.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Depends on which way you're viewing it. If looking from the trigger side, the first notch is the outside one. If looking from the dog side, the first notch is the inside one.

Dad always said the first one was the outside one, and that's how I was taught, but you can call which ever one the first one that you wish it to be.

The one that lets the most space between the jaws when the trap is set. It is also the one that lets the trap go off the easiest.
