posted not to long ago about jugging ideas for a pond.......you guys came up with some good ones and I employed one. nowwww I cant get them to hit on anything......I did catch 7 on chicken gizzards.............then after that.....nothing. they are def in there.....the owner unfourtunatly throws catfish food out and I watched them come up.......15-20 pounds cats even.

any ideas ?? after the gizzards went dead I tried shrimp, chubs, cut bait, nightcrawlers...............and they aren't interested

Get hold of some of his fish food if it's the pellet style and make dough balls out of it. Then scatter a little fish food out and when they start feeding on it throw your dough ball into the feeding frenzy. That's the only way you can get a bite in the catfish pond that I fish. It has a broadcast feeder hanging on it just like an electric deer feeder. Only thing the fish will eat is something that tastes like tier normal food. Use their habit against them.

Have the owner quit feeding them and they will get hungry!

I have nothing clever to put here.

Some of his food and some panty hose. Hook buried in the food wrapped in the panty hose.

Just livin' the dream...and paying full price for it!

Have a pond with a bunch of spooky catfish. Regular methods just didn't work after a while . Well I started fishing for the carp that also live in the pond. Well my car get was more hard to detect stuff ,braid instead if mono smaller hooks and prebaiting. Also none of the stinky foul crap people usually use for catfish. Anyhow for every carp I caught I was catching a catfish or two.

A good boilie on a hair rig is deadly espically if you pre baited the area with some wet corn or somthing similar

If legal in your state on private waters, throw a cast net over the catfish, when they come up to feed on the pellets.

The pantry hose, pellets and a fish hook is a great idea too.

That's a big part of it!! ^^ Larger, older catfish can get real tough to catch in a farm pond with conventional tackle, as they are quite sensitive to any odd noise, etc, that a fisherman might make. I like the simulated fish food idea, I have done something like that in the past with "fed" fish. What I did was whip a cup of food out and also a fly with my flyrod. It is quite a hoot to fight a big catfish on 2 pound test and a flyrod.

The most important part is to get them out of the water immediately if catching them when they’re grouped up feeding. I grew up with a pond that the catfish were fed. I quickly learned that when they’re being fed, hooking one and playing it would end the action with 1-2 catfish, 3 if I was lucky. Going to a jerk-em-straight-out approach changed everything. I haven’t done this in many years, but it never failed me. I’d catch as many as I wanted to clean and called it a day.

Stiff rod is important but can make do, but a fixed length of string that allows pulling them out without fighting is imperative (think cane pole setup). My opinion is that they’re releasing something that screams danger when they’re fighting (pheromones?) and it causes the bite to end. Lifting them straight away seems to beat this panic response and they remain frenzied. My experience had been they’ll hit nearly anything when in a frenzy.

Just my opinion and experience, your mileage may vary. Let us know how you end up making out...

Good luck

He wouldn’t fish for fish that are fed. He’s a fair chase feller

This makes a lot of sense. They won't be able to release as much fear pheromones to alert the other catfish if they are immediately pulled out.
