Just curious to know what everybody that runs drags on traps how long of chain they're running? I bought 50 saber tooth drags and enough chain for 8ft each. Plan to use for everything from coons to coyotes.

That's good advice there.I used to use 6',big mistake.8' was better but when I went to 10'that was what I was looking for.Keep in mind I'm using a lighter drag than you,I would think 8'would work just fine with your saber tooths.

I have some big coyotes, Some folks call them red wolves.I had to go to 12 ft of number 3 Chain to keep a 2 1/2 lb drag on the ground. To light of change and the drag can and will go airborne. 10 foot of chain could be 20 feet of skip. You have some really good drags add 4 feet of chain to your drags and be happy. If your trapping big open areas get a 4 legged partner..

coons and cats like to climb anyway,,,even gray fox!

because I'm in the East and I trap logging / woods roads I PRE-HOOK THE DRAG to saplings normally, so my 1 lb mini drags are perfect, attached to 6' of chain, so that WHEN a climber happens, I don't have to dispatch any further than head high.
I learned from others' nightmares of a coon or cat 10 ft up a tree and they couldn't get a shot unless they climbed 1/2 way up or a adjacent tree next door.

Many like my 2 lb drags for all around use though.

If I need to get the catch outa sight, I'll slide it on a wire.

A 75 lb bear cub pad caught in a coyote-sized trap and 30 or 40 feet up a tree isnt a good day when you have 100 more traps to check.

Coyotes.... Some areas don't have much sage brush and I don't have time to look an hour for them. allot of my area I can't get a stake in the ground because of rock. Heavy drags work for me

Really glad we don’t have bears in the SW portion of the State!

Thanks for the tips most of the time I've got brush of some kind within 100yards of my sets. For the coons I thought I could just wrap it around smaller tree. Just looking to cut down on time setting and pulling traps.
